Piston Rings

I am re building my spare engine and have taken the pistons out to change the rings,being a dumb ass and never done this before i forgot to take note of the position of the rings and piston position,is there a certain way the rings have to be?the top of the piston has an arrow stamp,a number 2 stamp and two paralel lines stamped on it if that helps,thanks.

As long as the rings are on the right way up, then the position isn't important. Just make sure the ring gaps aren't lined up and you position them evenly. They'll rotate when the engine is running anyway!

As above just make sure the ring gaps are not inline.

 

As for the arrow iirc it points towards timing end,just make sure you put each piston back in the pot it was removed from

Great,thanks for your answers and advice,i have managed to rebuild my engine and head with advice from this site,lets just hope it dont go bang,cheers.
