Possible Head Gasket Failure

Recommended Posts

grantley1988

Well my car looks like its head gasket is going :) its starting to use water and there are no signs of a leak. There is abit of mayo in the oil filler cap and on the dip stick when I check the oil.

Am I correct? The car runs perfectly though? I'm not too clued up on the matter but having a search earlier and these are the tale tale signs.

What's my next plan of action? How much am I looking to pay to get this fixed? I'm from bristol anyone recommend me somewhere?

Cheers

Mayo in the cap is normal for this time of year. You really need a compression test on the engine to tell you if the HG is gone.

As above. Mayo is quite common on these engines and the leak could be coming from somewhere thats not too obvious, the last thing you want to do is strip down the head when it doesn't need it B)

You have both missed the fact that there is mayo on the dipstick. This is not normal and doesn't bode well.

I agree with Tom but check the oil/water cooler (if fitted) before taking the head off.
