Am I daft??

Why is there a track car for sale on fleabay for ten grand with no v5???

Whether its a track car or not it should have ID.

I'm sorry but it should have ID.

Something dodgy or is it just me??

David

It probably does have I.D, just no paperwork.

Wouldn't surprise me for a lot of race cars.

so you'd pay 10k for car with ID but no paperwork??

Ignorance is no excuse as the law say's.

I don't think so.

If i were selling a car for that money it should have ID and be recognisable with the Law and DVLA.

On the log book (v5) it states that the log book is NOT proof of ownership. So why would you need one for a car that is never going to see the road.

You can still check it out, like you do with crossers etc, the police can check it with just the vin/frame number, it's a common thing to see track bikes that used to be road bikes that no longer have the v5, and it's only really a problem if you want to put it back on the road, but then it would be better to buy one that's on the road anyway.

I'm sorry but every car should have ID and a logbook.

There is no excuse,

Whether it is on/off road.

why? pretty much everything will have an I.D of some sort, but a V5 is only for vehicles used on the road.

I'm sorry but you are talking rubbish. Look at any purpose built race car and it will have no ID or V5. Nothing dodgy about it, built from a motorsport shell to be a race car.

That new 205 shell on there has no v5

The reason being that it hasn't been registered as it hasn't been on the road

Madscientist has a mate that had a Clio cup race car straight from the manufacturer no v5 or vin iirc

If it's never going on the road it doesn't need them

Why? Most if not all manufacturer race shells will have never been given an id as thats what they are a shell to which components are added. They are not going to ever go on the road so why would you need one?

and if you think thats bad look at vin plates.co.UK (or com or something like that) - now thats dodgy!

V5 means sod all I'm afraid, neither does an ID in the great scheme of things.

That ad is funny to read! Although sounds/looks a good car, shame it has a crap engine.

One thing I would say, although I agree entirely that an ID is not important for a race car, is that any shell I see without a VIN stamped in it has to be questioned on whether it's legitimate or not. Let's face it, ex-touring cars with a genuine motorsport history is one thing, but when a family hatchback not reknowned for it's track-based motorsport history turns up with nothing stamped across the firewall top, the chances of it being built from an original direct-bought shell from the factory must be pretty small.

That in itself isn't a problem either, of course, as that doesn't necessarily mean it's a ringer and/or stolen - it might be a write-off though, that was supposed to head to the scrap yard. After all, why would someone cut the vin number off or otherwise remove it? It makes no sense to do so unless you want to hide it's identity, and why would you want to do that (ie. is there a GOOD reason to?).

If I was buying a car with no VIN stamped in it, I'd just like to see some receipt, proof of purchase or something that gives me some confidence as to how the person came into ownership of it. Then again, given you can't identify it, how would anyone stake a claim on it anyway, I guess!?

P.S. Just like to say I am in no way referencing the car on ebay; I've got no knowledge of it and I'm sure it's all above board.

Give jason the owner a ring at Raw Motorsport and he will tell you if its got a v5 or not to make you happy :) I have lost count how meny 205's I have brought with out a V5 or plates, nerver botherd me. The car was built on here a few years ago and was ment to have a t16 engine fitted.

My first XS has no vin Stamp. The plate was there but nothing on the bulkhead.

I only found this out when I tried to change the numberplate and the DVLA siezed it saying it was probably stolen. They had to investigate it and turned out it wasn't there, hadn't been ground off etc so was all legit and I got it back. :)

Update for every one, jason has updated the advert and it has got a ID, just misplaced the V5 and he will send off to to the DVLA for one if needed.
