Mechanical / Hydraulic Handbrake Set Up On A Peugeot 205

Recommended Posts

tdr_1976

Does anyone have a combined Mechanical / Hydraulic handbrake set up on their Peugeot 205?

Reason I ask is that I'm considering using a set up like this on my road rally 205, for use on PCA events, obviously keeping the mechanical system for road legal use.

Any advice or pictures would be great!

Cheers!

i have the existing lever with cables attatched, and a 'lug' that is welded onto the lever, with a hole in for a clevis pin, to push on master cylinder piston.

pictures are a bit shabby, excuse the mess in the car!

I know you can get kits to convert normal cable hand brakes into hydraulic ones from places like rally design, but i think the 205 handbrake is pretty weak around the mountings. When I asked about it the concensus was pretty much to fit a completely seperate hydraulic handbrake. Would be interested to see if anyone has done this though as there isnt much room when you have got two bucket seats in place

Cheers Steve

I welded a spacer between the exhaust tunnel and the m/c and spaced it out with a bit of rubber hose, when the lever is pulled it prevents the 'flex' you get when using it on original mountings alone.

this setup i got from a man in southwales, i bartered for it when i collected my bilsteins from him. the job could be a bit tidyer, but it works like a treat!

i will do a neat job of it when the shell has been striped and sprayed.

Cheers for the suggestion Steve, I'll look into that.

Thanks for posting the pictures up of your set up Tom!

I'm not sure which route to take, I've just seen a photo of a separate hyd handbrake that has given me another possibility.

Have a look at the attached picture.

Cheers!

Out of interest, what size master cylinder are you using?

You can get .625 .700 and a .750

Just for information , this type of Hydraulic handbrake won't be legal for road rallys after the end of this year .

The one at the top with the OE handbrake pivot point and mountings will ..

iirc it is .625 but i shall have to check. this is for discs on the rear, not sure which size you need for drums, if you are using them.

i may be able to sell you one, as i have a pair for my pedal box, with remote resevoir but i want to use built in fluid resevoir master cylinders to make it a lot easyer and neater.

i have a 7 and 625 i think
