Alcon Calipers

Recommended Posts

Jonny_205

Just got a set of S/H Alcon Calipers being advertised as challenge spec.

Went to fit them yesterday and the bells are way off fron the centre line of the caliper once bolted to the hub. The disc needs to go further inboard.

Are the caliper mounts different on a 1.6 hub compared to a 1.9 ?

Can anyone confirm the calipers are the right ones for a 205 (part no CAC3438X107A)

Cheers John

What hubs are you fitting the calipers to? From your description it sounds like perhaps you are fitting to 1.6 hubs, and the brakes are designed for 1.9 hubs?

If so you have two options, either swap to 1.9/base model hubs (same offset, but the 1900 hubs will need 1900 shafts, whereas the base model will work with 1600 shafts) or have some different bells made to space the discs as required on your hubs.

Thanks for the quick relpy Tom,

Yes I've got 1.6 Hubs, do the 1.9 hubs have different dimensions ? ie between the hub mounting face for the disc and caliper mounting lug ?

This is your problem then.

A summary of hub differences-

1900 GTI hubs- large wheel bearing, shallow disc offset

Base model hubs (e.g. 1100/1400 petrol, diesel non turbo)- small wheel bearing, shallow disc offset

1600 GTI hubs- small wheel bearing, deep disc offset

So as I said in the previous post, you can either swap to base model hubs, this is a direct bolt on option nice and simple.

OR you can swap to 1900 hubs, however this will also mean you need to swap to 1900 driveshafts to suit the wheel bearings. Plus the 1900 hubs are getting difficult to get hold of in good condition now.

So if I were you, I'd head down to the breakers and get hold of some base model hubs, and bolt it all on.

Yes lots of them were to fit 1.6 hubs/offset, like the ones that are on eBay now!
