Rear Arms The Same?

Recommended Posts

rallysteve

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if the base model and gti rear (trailing arms) are interchangable. I have a base model arm (drum) with a good bearing shaft on it and rather than press it out and press it into another one. Can i swap the disc set up over from my 1.9 rear arm to use it?

Or am I just being thick. Kind of just at the end of a bad day after finding everything I have is damaged including the two decent arm shafts.

Ta Steve

The stub axles and trailing arm shaft will swap over, but I think the base model and GTI arms have differing camber/toe built into the casting.

Hard to say really, less toe means less scrub on the rear tyres so they don't get as hot as quickly but ioften you want more heat in the rear tyres for the better grip (admittedly marginal) it offers imo.

Less toe gives sharper turn in but also less stablity at high speed.

Graham.
