my first port of call would be checking the main earth from battery to body and engine/gearbox

if it's turning over at a normal speed but at regular intervals then displaying (I would say error messages) it doesn't sound like a physical problem but the all too common French electrical gremlins! Needs to be plugged into a diagnostics machine. C4's aren't very old though are they? Corroded parts shouldn't be a problem surely.

(very descriptive thread title btw! People are less inclined to reply or even read a thread with a title like that.)

Have you tried to translate the error code?

I'd say it was an earthing problem too, check battery connections and all main earth points.

Also watch the battery voltage when it does crank. It will probably drop right off which is causing the BSI to trip. (BSI controls cranking request - If BSI supply voltage drops off, it cannot function and cranking request stops).

had a mechanic look at it,he got a very clever sparky on it and its the ecu so next step is to send it away and see if it can be repaired.
