Badgeless Grills - Surely Somebody Could Make Some?

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

i have a feeling i'm resurrecting an old question here but i cant find the previous discussion.

does anybody have the ability to produce a badgless three bar grill?

the ones off mattig are stoooopidly expensive, so i was wondering if anybody who has one could perhaps make a mould, bosh some grp on there and flog it to us lot?

im sure plenty of people would buy 'em

grill backings are cheap enough on ebay, so it would just be a case of fibreglassing (or carbon fibre!!) the three bars, then bond onto the new back et viola :)

I would try it myself, but i neither have the skill nor the original peice to mould from

john

p.s. how bloody cool would a carbon badgless grill look!!!

p.p.s. is it grill or grille?

yeah i've made a home-brew one myself before which turned out pretty good, just think it would be better looking and easier to have some moulded :)

It's probably just me, but I'm not sure how well they'd actually sell these days. I think they're one of those mods that sort of came and went and has fallen out of favour a bit. I used to quite like them, but now I think they make the front end look too bare.

I could be wrong. Perhaps this topic will prove it :)

I decided not to keep it as it looked like it had not got a nose! It sold on eBay for £31. There is no real demand for them now and they do look pretty dated now IMHO

I'm not a fan either, they remind me of those Vauxhalls with aftermarket grilles.

Be proud if your Lion.

cant say i agree i'm afraid, i think its one of those relatively subtle mods that just makes the car a little bit different :)

having said that, i do think they look much better on something like an xs rather than a g/cti

your car is bloody nice tho henry!

I'm 50:50 with them, mine had one that looked good but the filler cracked and close up look a bit rough, but I was planning to put a badged grill back on but I sold the car.

I dig 'um. :D

Carbon 'bars' would be pretty sexy.

I'm going to run this past a guy I know that does CF/GRP etc... Ive seen his fibreglass and its exceptional, not seen his CF yet though. Will see what he thinks about spoilers too after that one on ebay went for 5 million pounds. :)

I think the front grill is the defining part of the 205.

when i see a car coming towards me on a road, as soon as i see that bar grill and the lion in the middle, it can only be a 205.

leave it alone, or take the coloured bits off.(my opinion obviously) my old 1.9 had the coloured bars missing and i think it looked quite good!

i have a gutman type mesh one here, and it doesnt even line up with the bonnet! absolute mess when fitted also.

I never understood why people want to remove the badge. I'm proud that I own a Pug and I want that badge there!

Cheers for the comments.

It looks like a Renault there!

Another idea by cutting up the standard grille

On my XS I put a badge from a Peugeot Partner in there to give it a slightly newer feel with a solid lion

Dredging up an old (ish) post here. I have a lightly damaged front grill, couple of skewed bits of the plastic backing and just looking just a tad wonky.

Basically I'm hoping to get a new Alpine White grille but not holding my breath. I've been looking at various grilles on ebay and then possibly painting them up accordingly.

Few questions:

1. Are the black plastic grille backings the same on an open and a closed grille?

2. What is a reasonable price for a decent condition complete grille (in your opinion  )?

3. Does anyone have any spare grille(s) or grille backings?

Thanks....

Badge-less grills are more aerodynamic, every little bit helps

They actually allow more air to enter the engine bay causing drag. ;)

Cue the Ford Focus style which can shut to reduce drag...
