I got an aluminium one from Rally Design for about £30, it does the job very nicely.

Mad Scientist

I have been experimenting with various systems and pipe configurations. Mainly using beer cans, jars, lots of RTV, stainless scourers (for baffles) and a breather filter.

One thing is for sure, a tuned Gti6 likes to breathe.

I would recommend going for the largest tank you can, with good baffles in it. This prevents blow through as suggested as a problem above.

Personally, I am opting to not drain back to the sump, mainly because in the cold I find a lot of condensations builds up, and I don't want water in my oil. Sandy recommends returning it to the sump, but the bulk of his knowledge is from race engines, which get hot quick and stay there: thus reducing condensation issues.

Keep the breather pipes to a suitable size, not too thin.

Finally, if you are using it on track, it makes sense to mount it on the drivers side if you can, which reduces the "flow" of oil out into the breather. If you cant manage this, try and keep the pipework "uphill" from engine to tank.

Hope that helps.

Pete

JRL

My mi16 is pretty standard and isn't driven hard so when I had a catch tank on it barely collected anything. I have since removed it and gone back to standard set up.

Miles recently posted up a pic of an alloy catch tank and filler tower combined.

Def make sure you have a big enough pipes to breath through! I had one on the Rallye and the pipe it was supplies with was too small meaning lots of pressure in the rocker area and it blew its rocker gasket rather well = oil all over the engine bay.

I've got one on the gti6 and it has collected about 1/4 of a tank now. Still kept in place the one way valve so it breaths properly.

Hi!

I'am on the way to put my tuned MI16 eingine in my 205GTI in the next view days.

Does anyone have a drawing how to do all the oilpipes including a catch tank ?

Regards,

Andy
