Went For A Drive On My Favourite Road Today...

Recommended Posts

Got my 205 out of a 2 month hibernation now that the winter weather has finally gone (for now). It was clearly in a mood and not happy with me as the rear wiper didn't want to stop wiping and the heater blower motor is not wanting to blow. So I thought I'd make it up to the car by going for a blast to a road known locally as "the corkscrew". Thanks to my dad for the photos:

A series of 5 hairpin bends rising up from the shore of Loch Ness then a drive along a narrow ridge before opening out onto moorland.

Wasn't slippy as long as I kept it in second. Was just the thing to blow the cobwebs away though the heater blower motor will need a bit more investigation.

My old baby :(

Stunning pics

The motor was squeeling so Marksorrento took it out and oiled last year. Dont know if squeeling is a sign it was on the way out but it was annoying.

Hope you get the couple of bits sorted - glad she's getting used properly too. :)

Would be right in thinking that's at the south west tip of Loch Ness, on the route that runs along the south side of the Loch up to Inverness?

Pretty much spot on. If you put in Inverfarigaig into google maps and zoom in you'll see the hairpins which are only 200m from the village. The streetview car has been up too!!

And don't worry after that the car has had a sedate run down to Fort William and has been washed. I'm planning on a programme of preventative maintanance this spring to keep it in good nic

I've only been along there once. Decided to drive home along the south side of the loch as I'd never been down that side much more than 1/3 of the way. I just assumed it'd be similar driving to the road along the north side. How wrong was I?!

The first half of the route is not too bad, just quiet, windy B road stuff. But when you get to the end near where your photos are taken it just gets a bit too mental! Mind you, it was raining and getting dark when we came along there. But still, I wasn't going much more than 30mph for most of the way as it was pretty damned scary for a first time along that route.
