Bilstein struts use upside down inserts. That's why it's easy to machine and weld the strut bodies.

 

Even so it's 540 pounds for the Bilstein dampers + 100 for springs and conversion + 100 for the adjustable top mounds which adds up to 750.

 

I think I'll just get the Gaz kit after all for 500 including adjustable top mounts. I can't get the car back on the road until I sort the suspension and I just can't afford more. It works for so many, it will work for me.

2.5 hours including dismantling, draining, cleaning, welding and re-assembly? If so, that's pretty impressive!
