I assume you have tried us?

http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/car-club-insurance.html

If you are comparing against what you paid last year, bare in mind there has been an average 20% increase in insurance rates in the last 12 months.

Try and find some reviews from the company that gave you the cheap quote maybe?

Try and avoid Skyinsurance if possible, I had a policy with them for a year and I don't think I have a single positive thing to say about them! Customer service is terrible, if you ever need to change anything on the policy you will be charged LOADS and don't ever, ever, try and change the vehicle or cancel the policy early.

I will definitely be steering clear of them in the future, you learn by your mistakes eh?!

yer, sky was over £100 more but i am looking to change sell the 205 in a few months so will be changing cars and the company who offered me the cheapest for my 205 also offered the most expensive for a gti 180, so i'm shopping for someone who'll give me a good deal for the changeover as well! think i got it sorted now though :P

Definatley keep away from sky. I had mine through them last year and it was £385 this year its gone up to £552, i was going to change company and find some body else but everything went wrong when it was due so i just carried on with it. I am now seriously thinking about cancelling it and changing even thats going to cost me about £40 to cancel. Its costing me £52 a month which at the moment i can do with out spending. What gets me is nothing on the car has changed i have 1 more year no claims and its still gone up over £150 even with the club discount.

You got off lightly! They wanted to charge me no less than £900, yes that's NINE HUNDRED POUNDS to cancel 6 months into my policy.

Fecking joke! I don't know how they are allowed to trade!

That's a bloody joke. Maybe rather than getting a 'discount' all members should refuse all future business as there does seem to be a lot of negative feedback.

I am sorry to read this feedback but you have to bare in mind that there has been a nationwide increase in insurance rates, typically prices have risen by 20% in the past 12 months. You would struggle to find many people who have not seen this increase on their renewal prices. Unfortunately in a lot of cases the rise in rates is outweighing the discount you receive for the extra years NCB, this is happening across the industry not just for Sky Insurance customers.

Renewals are always a touchy subject, on one hand we have customers who shop around and are unable to find more competitive prices, on the other hand some do, if this happens and a company is quoting a lower rate with the same level of cover we will always ask our underwriters to match the price where possible. We have fantastic renewal retention rate.

Hi,

I've got to ask, and please do not take this the wrong way, was the policy cancelled in line with the cancellation rates we gave you verbally on the phone before you took the policy and which were sent in writing to you? We make these rates very clear, much more so than other insurers. Our cancellation rates are in line with our competitors, in some cases are better, you would have been in the same situtation if you cancelled with us or other insurers. When you take out an annual insurance policy with any insurer (or entering into most 12 contracts) if you cancel early you do not receive a pro-rata refund. If you are over 6 months into a policy you will lose up to 75% of the premium, again, this is the case with a lot of insuers.

If we have done anything wrong and not the way we informed you a cancellation refund would be calculated please post back here or PM me.

Thanks

Ollie

You need to take negative feedback about any insurance company with a pinch of salt. The case above, as I describe would be the same with many other UK insurers.

Please also bare in mind that the insurance industry is one of the UK's most hated for one reason or another, I understand that but people will go out of the way to complain but will very rarely praise an insurer for good service.

We have many happy customers from this club and from our 180+ affiliated car clubs, sure we pick up negative feedback along the way, it is natural in this industry and you take it on the chin and explain your side of things when you can.

Thats for the post Jake, it readdresses the balance a little.

As mentioned we (Sky) have negotiated a price match service with our specialist underwriters renewal so if they give an uncompetitive price we will go straight back to them in light of a more competitive and like for like policy and will request it is matched.

Would sky be able to be a 18 year old lad paying £620 on a 1.1 205 with all modifications declared? I think not

Hi Callum, our minimum criteria via our car club scheme is to be aged 19 and over with a full 2 years driving experience.

You are paying a very cheap rate there for an 18 year old though.

Thanks

What would be a round about price for a 19 year old with 1 years noclaims on a 1.6 gti?

Sorry Callum (not being difficult) but it is impossible for me to say, there are a lot of variables.

I didn't cancel the policy in the end, because it would have cost so much, instead I swapped it onto a different vehicle which again brought a whole lot of problems. The lady on the phone was clearly taking me for a mug as I was changing the insurance from a 200bhp 3.0 V6 205 with modded suspension, brakes

and wheels all fully declared to a completely standard 1.9, and the reduction in price was....... wait for it...... about £50 oh and they reduced the cover from comprehensive to TPFT only (this is 6 months into the policy).

So that means that your price for a 21 year old with 4 years driving experience on a completely standard 1.9 is £2100 for 12 months, WOW THAT'S COMPETITIVE!!!!! (the 12 month price on the 3.0 V6 was about £2200, which I was happy with)

I understand that problems come and go in all industries, but unhelpful customer services is not something that we should 'just expect'.

With regard to negative feedback, again I understand more negative feedback will appear compared to positive, a bit like the 'hows my driving' stickers on lorries, I doubt many people ring up praising the driving, but if someone does ring up with negative feedback its for a good reason and needs to be made known to as many people as possible.

I will make sure to avoid Skyinsurance in the future, like I said you learn from your mistakes. I will also make sure to let as many people as possible know about the awful service I received from Skyinsurance so that hopefully no one else will get caught out like I did. At least that way I can say 'I told you so'!

Anyway, this isn't a dig at you personally (unless you own the company!) as I know you are just doing your job like the rest of us and probably have sales targets to hit or a bonus scheme like in most businesses.

Well i have been doing a little shopping around today and have found one which is £379.48 with all mods declared and the same level of cover so I think i shall be cancelling my insurance soon.

Also quick question why are my standard 1.9 gti wheels insured for £500 when we all know they aint worth that.

It is hard for me to comment without you details, if you wish to PM these to me I can give you a full run down of how we worked out the policy changes.

I do remember that at age 19/20(?) we were one of very few insurers (maybe the only insurers) to entertain you on the V6 conversion, the price we gave you was a 'flat rate' which wont mean much to you but does have an effect on your vehicle change to the 1.9gti. Insurance prices are not dictated on just on engine capactity, it is about the whole risk presented. You would pose the same or similar risk on both cars. You may feel strongly that we have treated you harshly but reading in between the lines, we haven't. As I say though, PM me and I will look into it.

Ps, I am not targeted on sales in anyway, my job is purely to look after our car club affiliation scheme.

Thanks

Ollie

We are affiliated with the main Honda Civic clubs so we are usually very competitive on them..

My colleague Luke used to own a 1.9GTi Turbo technics conversion, I assume this may be what you are referring to.
