I have no loyalty to any insurer, I will just pay for whoevers cheapest.

Careful with that, cheapest isn't necessarily the best, a lot of companies are offering stripped down policies, eg no legal cover, no courtesy car, high excess.. When you need your insurance most you want it to actually offer you a decent level of cover.

I'm well aware of it - but like many people, as I'm forced to have a policy, I go for whatever is cheapest.

The first year I had my 1.6 I went with sky

I was very pleased as it was only a second car

However, in December my renewal came through.

317 for fully comp with a limited 2000 miles

I had decided to gti6 it anyway so shopped around

HIC did it all mods declared 4000 miles for £340

I would give them a try if I were you

I'm with sky, when it came to renew I phoned around a few places and HIC were cheapest I phoned sky back up told them the price and they matched it, it's always worth telling insurers you've had a cheaper quote elsewhere. I've got another policy with elephant and I hate them cause you never get to talk to someone who can speak English, which all the ones I've spoken to at sky have done.

I hate it when they do that, if you can insure me for that price why was that not my renewal quote the first time.

Remember, companies like sky, flux and hic are insurance brokers. You are paying them to provide you with the cheapest policy. If you have to ring them up and say you can get it for X amount and they say they can match it that really does boil my pi$$.

Ollie over to you.

Find a insurer who doesnt do that. It's a way for them to make even more money from people who don't shop about.

As a broker we do not dictate the prices given at renewal by our underwriters.

As a broker with decent 'buying power' we have secured a price match service, at renewal (where possible) with our specialist underwriters.

Ok then if I as an Individual can get a better price than a broker with "buying power". It begs the question how much effort do brokers put into getting competitive prices come renewal time. After all that is what you are getting your commission for is it not?

Please be aware this is not a go at sky after all Ollie is good enough to come on here and discuss this.

As a broker we search our panel of underwriters, we use 2 or 3 at a time for specialist (modified/import) insurance so we are a little limited as to how many companies will quote, more often than not the existing provider is the most competitive.

I do not mind at all, my job is to answer these type of queries the best I can.
