Gear Knob For 1988 1.6 205gti

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can buy a standard black plastic Gear knob for a 1988 1.6 205GTi ? Peugeot don't stock them any more ?

The ones on ebay seem quite garish.

They are tough to get off ? Apparently, you just pull very hard ?

They are easy to fit though, simply push on ?

Thanks for your help.

Just pop to your local scrappy and get one off a basemodel and swap the centres over, job done! Pull and twist to get it off.

Try not to punch yourself in the head though.

Some plonker fitted my Autolock to the gear knob instead of the shaft and squashed it.

The gear knob centre will still be ok ? Its not the same gear knob on the different models then ?

So its the actual gear knob that is damaged, rather than the centre with the numbers on? If so just get a basemodel one and swap the centres over, basemodel has white numbering, gti is red.

I got a repacement white one one from a scrappy.

I can swap the centers ok. Trouble is I couldn't get the new one on as the hole for the shaft seemed a fair bit smaller.

I tried to give the gear knob a tap with a hammer, through a piece of wood, and hey presto the new one cracked. Woops !!

I will try and get another replacement.

Is there a knack of fitting them ? Do I just need to file out the hole and tap it down gently with my hand ?

I find that twisting it 180 degrees back and forth while pushing down on it works, also making sure the gearknob's quite warm helps too.
