Twin 40's On A 1.1?

Recommended Posts

Petrolsniffer

Hello all I'm just wondering if this is possible?

A friend of mine has a euro rallye inlet along with two dellorto twin 40 carbs from an abandoned project I understand the 1.1 tu has the same underpinnings as the 205 euro rallye engine so is this possible for abit of fun?

I assume they're the same port spacing?

Seems a bit extreme for a 1.1 - but all the same, search is your friend

Yes I know its a little extreme I wasn't expecting massive power gains just wanted a little increase along with the epic sound :(

the Euro Rallye uses a special water pump that allows apace for the inlet manifold. You Can maybe achieve the same if you file off bits off yours...

Damn ah well! was worth inquiring :D

1.1 underpinnings are rather different to the Euro rallye, it's essentially a 1.6 GTI with the TU24 engine and an MA box and shafts, so wishbones not track control arms, Bendix vented brakes not the Bendix solid, 40mm wide Girling rear drums over the 30mm wide base model stuff.

40's may be a tad ott, but I would think they could be choked down and re-jetted to suit? I don't know much about carbs though.

have some inspiration in the form of a 1.1 TU race engine built by fellow forum member Tony Perks 136 bhp 1.1 TU

You'll need the TU24 head to use the TU24 inlet as the ports and studs are different.

You'll also need the rubber and steel spacers from that fit between the TU24 inlet manifold and carb to turn the carbs the right way up.
