hi,

Anyone done a timing belt on a 06 1.9 diesel renault megane? From what i remember most if not all the 16v petrols dont have a key way on the timing belt crankpully, Was wondering if the new diesels are the same?

Thanks paul

No they dont mate .Best way is to take the flywheel cover plate off underneith and mark the flywheel up saves buying all the timing pins ,Just use a ruler and some tipex or a scribe

A few years ago when i started my aperenticeship i had one of these in it was a petrol one and was goin like a bull in a china shop on it and buzzed the bottom pulley off ,So my old boss had to buy the kits and think it was something stupid like £70 just for the bottom pin .Waste of money unless the belt snaps then youll need one .Otherwise just do the above with the tipex

just a note, not all the 1.9 dci's have a keyway on the bottom pulley. ive certainly seen lagunas like this but ive not done a 1.9 dci in a megane, only a 1.5.

believe it or not i did a laguna dci with a keyway on the crank, i thought it was odd as well. i always pin these, just like zetecs as they dont need to be far out to bend valves.

I wasnt disbeleiving you mate infact the opposite usual french crap always changing ,And a few of the ones ive done might have had keyways but i never noticed and just marked up the flywheel so never botherd to check it,The only bonus to these is makes setting the tension on the belt easier
