A few things have moved on, a few of the dents have been pushed out, still definately needs a door,its letting condensation in rather badly now.

Last night i picked up an XS shell from near Sunderland for absolutely nothing

Whilst its far from perfect it certainly gives me a donor door and rear quarter.

However the problem is its in quite good nick, certainly less rust on it than mine and I prefer the colour.

Now should i take the quarter off it and fix the red one which will be a lot of work.

Or should i reshell the red ones parts into the the topaz shell?

The topaz shell needs a front wing as the current one fits horribly and the bonnet needs painting at the least.

re-instate the Topaz, chuck another red door on the XS, knock out the dent on the 1/4 panel (certainly not enough damage to warrant replacing the 1/4!)

 

and re-size the pictures!

Is that rear quarter panel split down at the bumper? Might be better to source a red 205 breaker, cutting that part out rather than repairing it? Not a massive job, and the Topaz looks easy enough to sort.

I'd personally opt to re-shell everything into the topaz shell, you could do it in a weekend.

 

Wish I could pick up a donor Xs to fix mine but they're as rare as hen's teeth over here!

The red one's rear quarter definately has enough damage to warrant replacing it. Alan is right, it has split away at the bottom, the picture is quite flattering actually, the crease above the pinstripes is worse than it looks. Where it meets the door it is a mess.

The topaz shell is another XS, it just happens to have a gti side badge

 

Note the lack of arch trim, and the fact he calls it a XS in the first paragraph

Well as an interim follow up to this, the topaz shell is no more

However its gone to a good cause, the quarter has been chopped off and when i'm back at easter will be put on the cherry.

I got a surprising amount of bits from the interior, nearly a complete dash and wiring loom, leccy windows, good seat bolsters, spare panels.

Quite happy overall really!

I've worked out that i'll have about £2000 spare student loan by the end of this year, as i got a big fat bursary and grant

So come the summertime i will have some good spare cash for spending!
