Hi,

Building a Xu7 with a gti6 head, I know one or more of the hyd followers had a tap on it so im thinking of using soild followers but iv never heard of anyone using them with a stardard or a reprofiled cam? id say thay would work ok? Any info from any of you camshafts experts would be great.

Thanks paul

Are you sure you have a lazy lifter and not a slightly bent valve?

Tapping is not normally a lifter, It's more from a badly repaired head in all of my experance of these (Allot).

Cams have different ramps for solid and std lifters,

You can use solid lifters with a standard hydraulic cam but it will be very noisy. You can't use hydraulic lifters with a solid cam. If you want to use solid lifters it's best to get your cams reprofiled with a solid grind. It doesn't cost nearly as much as a new cam and the results are the same, or better. GTi6 cams are very hard and thus superior to many of the new blanks around. It doesn't matter about base circle diameters with a solid cam as shimming will take up the difference. As the GTi6 cam has a very generous amount of lift, there are many grinds around that would be suitable.
