205 Back Home!

Recommended Posts

chesney

Finally got my 205 at my own house. Been in my mothers garage for 10 years and today I went to pick it up. Over the years I had stripped it to a shell and welded up the areas that needed it, rust treated and sealed. So it was kind of thrown back together so I could get it brought up. I've no idea how I remembered where everything went, was a mission!

A can of petrol, quick check of the oil and I turned it over.....wow it fired into life minus the exhaust so it was pretty loud and angry LOL

150 mile drive down with the trailer and fairly gentle drive back up. Bought a car capsule for it and it is now tucked up in its new climate controlled home :D

Plan will be to get all the bodywork back on properly, give it a really good clean inside, rebuild the engine and then get it off to a good bodyshop and get it mint again.

Hopefully with it now up here where it belongs I can get to spend some time on it and tinker away.

Happy man :D

Hopefully back to its former glory

Looks great. What kit is on it as I don't recognise it? I like the curves on the side skirts - very Gutmann-esque!

The wheels look like Wolfrace Voodoos without the centre caps (and before they put that naff engraving on them)

I'm liking that body kit, it's quite subtle, but yet in your face.:D

I think it is Gutmann. I'd never ever found out for sure but back in 1993 when I bought it it had gutmann wheels on it. I presumed the previous owner had the kit and wheels done shortly before I bought it as it was mint!

The current wheels are Stil Auto Sigma 16" with centre caps removed cos I thought they spolied the look. I hunted high and low to get these and they are a ford fitment but with the ecosse hubcentric spacers. Rear spacers were machined down to bring the wheels back in the arches a little as the 309 axle was rubbing too much LOL :D

Cheers, here's an earlier pic when it had a set of fondmetals and still had the red inserts. Not sure which is better.

IMO, the red stripes are better, it breaks it up if that makes sense. I also prefer those wheels. :) it's got a such a wide stance!

I agree the red strips and those alloys make it look the biz compared to the first picture.

I like the kit very much, the side skirts are just what im looking for for my project :o

I also like the red pin striping that runs along the car under the windows. Just really suits it IMO.

I think you should restore it to how it was in the second picture.

See I'm the complete opposite when it comes to the pinstripe. I've never liked it on any 205 (thank f*** it was just an optional extra) and for me it rates as badly as the shopping trolley lower boot spoiler and the reflective rear panels. I like it retro, but they are just too retro naff. Yuck!

Maybe we should start a poll about that :o

As for this 205, love it :D I've always said that whilst I can't stand horribly barry'd 205s, I'm not against bodykits and different wheels if they work as an overall package. This one works. It looks smooth, clean, a little more modern, but still retains the important 205 design traits.
