205 Plumbed In Fire Extinguisher System

Recommended Posts

bigsheep

Has anyone on here got any photos of their plumbed in fire extinguisher system?

I have mounted the nozzle for the driver under the dash to point at the body, and

the under bonnet one pointing over the top of the engine towards the injectors etc.

The question is, how have people mounted their external pull handles and where have

you mounted the cylinder? My current thoughts are for the cylinder to be behind the

co-drivers seat.

Most co-drivers seats are all the way back. I have seen most fitted right in front of the drivers or co-drivers seats. This does depend on the size of your tank, how big is yours? <_< .

Mines at the back on the boot floor and pull handles on scuttle co drivers side! <_<

I cannot figure how to mount the external handle on the co-drivers scuttle side without welding a raised box in...

The cylinder is a 2.5 ltr fev one.. Wondered about the boot floor but there is space behind the co-driver just and will keep

the weight slightly lower down...

I have a plate welded in the scuttle and my co drivers seat is well back so things were abit tight. My cylinder is same size as yous and i,ve mount it just in front of the spare wheel. I did not fancy fitting in front of the co driver as they can be clumsey buggers with their feet. <_<

What are you using it for as Rallying just needs them under the bonnet, I;ve never seen the point of it inside as it does very little if anything for the small burst they are

have seen the 2.25L lifeline bottles strapped down in front of the nav seat, i.e directly under knees.

Is that pull handle mounted in the plastic cowling or is their a plate beneith?

I guess a gromet through the bulkhead where the cable passes through would be ok and the plastic

cowling should be strong enough to take the strain if the handle is pulled.....

The plastic cowling is weak, brittle, and not strong enough. Remember that you are fitting this to give you a chance of getting out of the car without serious burns should it catch fire. The pull cable needs to be rigidly mounted so that pulling it makes the extinguisher go off, not the cable pull out of the plastic with the guy pulling it then panicing and trying to make the extinguisher go off.

True,

guess I'll fold up a bracket to weld to the scuttle to hold the fire and elec pulls. THe photo on the thread must show the handle clamped between the plastic cowling and a bracket beneith...

<pedant mode>

Depends if you want to rally outside of the UK or not, Miles... for Europe you'll need 2 nozzles in the engine bay AND 2 nozzles in the passenger compartment, and a minimum of 4litre tank for AFFF.

Just for track use and possibly some hill climbing...

Ah, you're fine then. I only mention it because rallying over the water in Europe is getting incredibly good value for money these days - I'm building my new car to European regs (as opposed to just MSA UK-targetted regs) so that I can hopefully venture over there some time in the future - and unfortunately one thing I've discovered is I've got to junk all my perfectly-good extinguisher system for bigger stuff

As well as my fire pull switch on the scuttle, i have my battery cut out pull next to it. Making a mounting plate and welding it is quite easy.
