Rear Lights.

Recommended Posts

Well first electrical gremlin :P , the rear passenger lights have given up the ghost - the indicator and brake lights work fine just the two normal light bulbs. The bulbs are fine - tried them in the other side and they work fine.

I then tried the fuse box and low and behold F11 was blown - so tried another 5A fuse and it instantly blew :( . Took the light cluster of and cleaned all the contacts/plugs and tried again - blew another fuse :( . I then tried a 20A fuse just for the hell of it and it worked!! left it for a minute and no smoke/fire :P .

Have now taken the fuse out and am hoping someone might be able to give me a clue of where to look next :o .

Thanks in advance for any help/advice. :P

I'd have a look at the number plate lamps- these are off the same circuit as the tail lights, however what is confusing is that the drivers side are still working?

Hi Tom thanks for the fast reply - yeah the drivers side works fine, arent these on another fuse? I used the drivers side to verify the the bulbs were ok.

Ill have a look at the number plate lights to see if there is anything there.

Thanks again.

Digging up an old thread :-)

Both sides of my rear lights clusters do not work (205gti). i.e. reverse light, indicators, park lights etc.

Searched and could not find anything obvious. Checked wires as far as I can see and changed globes, checked fuses, rear grounding point.

Front main lights (headlamp, high beam, side lamps), front indicators work

Any help greatly appreciated. Have access to a multimeter if required.

Wiring as follows.

LHS Passenger rear cluster/wiring

  —————————————[Light blue 16A] not connected

 —————————————[Pink 63?] not connected

    ————————————[yellow/green ??] not connected

————————————[white 107]————connected to same 107 white
————————————[green/white cannot see number]——connected to same green/white cannot see number

————————————[light blue 200]————connected to same light blue 200
————————————[white 201]——connected to same white 201

————————————[yellow 28R]————connected to same yellow 28R
————————————[brown ??]——connected to same brown cannot see number

connected this 2 pin brown connector to back of the housing
    ————————————[green/yellow ??]
    ————————————[red ??]

connected this 6 pin brown connector to back of the housing
    ————————————[orange 151]
    ————————————[light blue 48]
    ————————————[white 49]
    ————————————[yellow 64]
    ————————————[2 green wires* 36]
    ————————————[red 53]

————————————[white 36B] this is connected to green wire in above 6 pin connector

BLACK/White 5 pin connector is connected on both sides to back of the housing.

*There is a single ‘tab’ at the back of each housing. IS there something that needs to connect to this?

RHS Driver rear cluster/wiring

REAR Number plate lights also have following connected.

Yes ! , an earth .

That'll be the yellow/green wire with yellow single spade connector .. so you're missing earth on both sides .

Power feed goes from the fuse box to the LHS unit only , then the RHS unit uses power supply taken from the LHS unit via that black cable which connects the two of them .

Thanks!!

With the earth, pardon ignorance; does one need another on the RHS too? There is no yellow/green wire on the RHS.

Just the LHS , when there's power and ground present on the LHS unit the RHS one will take both feeds from it for it to work .

Wasn't sure either just looked up on the wiring diagram .

Does anyone know what these unconnected wires for the LHS Passenger rear cluster are?
