Steamy Windows

Recommended Posts

My windows get pretty steamy when i go dogging.

I kid, i kid.

When i finish at the gym or playing sport and get in the 205, my windows are really steamy. My fan takes forever to clear them up. My demister pad just moves all the moisture round.

Has anyone got any good tips to counter this, i think there is a product from the people who do Rain-X that you put on the inside of the window to stop them steaming up, anyone tried this? is there a proper decent brand of demister thats particularly good?

Thanks, ran a search but didn't find anything.

Put the blower on the screen on hot, undo the windows slightly on both sides, sit back from the screen.

+1 man points for going to the gym!

pop open one of the rear quaterlights if you have the option, and deal with the cold until you get the matrix warm. used to work a treat in the xs, after going swimming. + 1 man points for me!

I'd be concentrating on where the moisture is coming from rather than how to clear it once it has steamed up the windows.

Have you checked for leaks and damp carpet/underlay, or whether the heater matrix is weeping?

The later was behind my car steaming up and being a pig to clear the glass on, but it wasn't leaking so badly as to make the footwells obviously sodden. The biggest clue was that the coolant level kept slowly dropping, together with a slightly sweet smell when you first put the heater on when the engine was upto temperature.

Dr Zoidberg?

If the car is full of stuff it steams up more, maybe to do with the stuff in the car holding moisture?

Well i figured the moisture was coming from me, because im a bit of a sweater. When i hit the gym or whatever, i become hotter than the earths core and i sweat perfusely (sp?)

Havn't noticed any damp floors tbh.

I have opened the sunroof on occasion, its a tough choice. Stay warm and not see where im going, or freeze my nuts off and see perfectly ;)

The only thing i can think of is to rub shaving foam into the inside of my window. If you put shaving foam on your mirror in the bathroom and rub it in, it won't steam up for a while. True story ;)

It also helps if you keep the windows nice & clean.

I've used the Rain-X, Prestone, and a couple other anti-fog stuff in the racecar and they do help.

You do need to re-apply it tho.

Same here, what does that say about us I wonder?

I have heard mixed reviews about the Rain - X anti fogging stuff.

I use the standard Rain - X and it certainly works but wears off quite quickly.

Not a bad idea, i think i'd cook myself alive though, which would be a problem ;) I've tried holding my breath too!

Yeah i've been keeping my windows clean, purchased some megs glass cleaner, aswell as autoglym glass polish. I think the seals on my car might be a bit ropey which doesn't help.

Tooth paste! And for once I am not taking the P***. A friend was running a Toyota corolla A36 with a Fiberglas boot lid and perspex screen so no heating on it.

He did this and it did make a difference.
