Right as the dimma has decided to crack a liner ive decided to put in a new engine and get rid of the gti lump so have sourced a low mileage 2.0 406 turbo lump with everything with it rather cheap apart from wiring does anyone know if these are a direct swop for the XU9 i know about all the extra pipes and stuff but hows the clearance for the turbo?

There will be lots of info if you use the search or have a look through the 'projects' section.

For starters it isn't a straight swap, you need a different engine mount (from a gti-6 I think) and will need to angle the engine or use a different manifold to have clearance around the rear of the engine. It's been a while since I put a turbo engine in but I think that right!

With regard the stuff you have for sale, start up a for sale thread, you will probably get a lot of interest for the parts you have listed.

It's a fairly straight swap although I've heard it's the hardest of the XU engines to fit. The smaller top mount from the S16 etc saves a bit of weight over the bulky turbo item. You don't always need to extend the bottom fork, I extended mine but realized after that I didn't need to, I think it varies from 205 to 205, also I have a feeling it depends on if you're using an old version of the engine (XM etc) or a new version of the engine (406 etc). Fitting the intercooler can be a PITA though if you want to keep it looking stealth like.
