Sump Baffle?

Recommended Posts

Mart Pug

This doesn't seem to have been discussed, after doing a search.

Does anyone run a track day car without one? Any issues experienced through not using one.

My car will be running with yoko A048's, with standard suspension.

Just the 8!

Are 16v more susceptible to this than 8v?

so i am told, its the mi16 engines that suffer with oil surges.

and a good search would have been fine!

no, all engines suffer from oil surge, just the Mi16's die from it far quicker

At the risk of sounding 'off' its a very well covered topic, especially for the Mi engined cars. Maybe be a little more specific with your search, use speech comma's " before and after your keyword to help filter out the rubbish you dont need...

But, in answer to your question, i run a baffled XU 'trap door' sump with extended pickup an my Mi and do still get surge, more so under braking of late since ive switched to 1155's and full slicks

Id say its worth thinking about for sure, even on an 8v, as every little bit helps really. Preventation is better than cure and all that jazz..

we made our own baffle setup:

We also cut the front out an welded on a section that will hold an extra 1ltr of oil

Now you've had your knuckles wrapped for not using search.

I think that given you have a standard 8v on standard suspension you will be fine. I've never had any surge issues and done a fair few track days in my 8 valver.

Save your money and efforts because you'll find the limits of other things* before you find the limits of the oil pick up.

*by that I mean suspension, brakes etc.
