One For The Tall 205 Drivers

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of getting a 205gti but there's one thing i'm worried about...i'm 6 5". Any tall owners here? Obviously it's a small car and it may look slightly comical me climbing out of it, but is it bearable? I guess as long as the seat goes back quite far and is relatively low it should be ok...

cheers

Lewis

I'm 6'2" and have no bother at all, in fact the seat isn't even all the way back.

However - I did lower the seat by removing the tilt mechanism and this made it much more bearable as it gave another 1.5" in headroom.

I reckon you'll be snug being 6'5" but probably not out of the question.

I'm about 6 foot tall, and I have my seat as far back as it goes... On a sunroof car iirc you get less headroom than a tintop. I think there is maybe 2 inches above my head when I'm sitting in place. Seat is fairly upright, but not ridiculous.

You can easily lower the seats though, there are some little black riser blocks under the subframes. Lowers the seat maybe an inch or so.

I think you'd be alright in a 205, they are bigger than you think. (even though they're small!)

You are all midgets frankley  I'm over 6'5' approaching 6'6' and find it absolutly fine. I have the seat all the way back obviously and its a perfect driving position. I can't comment how stupid I look driving it around though!

205's are a lot better than a lot of other cars I have driven such as 106s, defenders, old escorts and a load others!

You're all tiny... I'm 6'7".

It's not the most comfortable car but it's fine, in fact it's much easier than some. I commuted ~110miles/day for a couple of months after some bint wrote off my Mondeo and don't remember any aches or pains.

Another factor is that some standard seats seem to sit / sag alot lower than others, which can make a big difference to headroom.

I'm 6'5" and have no real issues. I have the seat all the way back and have removed the plastic rings from the seat bolts which gives an extra 1/2" or so of headroom. I've had both tin top and a sunroof GTI's and I find there's more headroom in the sunroof versions as long as you have the slidey trim piece (not sure of it's proper name) pushed back i.e. glass exposed.

I also have slightly spikey hair which adds at least another inch

Ha! I'm 5'8" yet find the 106 quite uncomfortable. Loved the driving position in the 205, I could almost see the end of the bonnet!

no issues here at a mere 6', some of you must have bloody long legs if you have the seat all the way back, mine are 36" ish and mine sits just over half way!

Goliaths taller than all of us put together!

6'2" here, seat all the way back, more than enough headroom. I have long legs and bad posture though!

I'm 6ft4 (hey, we're all declaring it!) and when I was buying my first car I convinced myself I wouldn't fit in a small hatchback...don't get me wrong no-one can sit behind me in the 205, but once you have a technique to climbing in, its fine.

I'm 6ft 6in.... so I bought a CTI!!!!!

The best thing I did was extend the steering wheel out with a snap off steering wheel boss.

Here is me in a crowd, just to the left of the "W" when I was 18.

ha, never thought this would generate as much discussion. I barely ever see anyone as tall as me but as soon as there's a topic relating to height on a forum everyone comes out of the woodwork and i feel average height!

Sounds good then, my first car was a 106 and that was pretty tight, the most annoying thing is not being able to have your knee's under the steering wheel...more like up round the side lol. And also getting out/in isn't particularly gracious, just have to thrust your left leg forward to the otherside of the wheel and dive in from there.

Suppose it's another reason to fit buckets and a smaller wheel though
