V6 Lower Engine Mount Question

Recommended Posts

Rob Turbo

Does anyone know if the lower engine mount bush on a v6 is the same size as the XU lower engine mount bush?

I need an uprated bush for mine, I've asked Stew205 (BBM) but haven't had a reply, I guess he's busy or forgot I asked! Due to the tight fit it would be a pain in the arse to measure so if nobody can help I'll pull it apart and make a nylon bush while it's in bits, probably a bit (or lot) stiffer than I'm after but will save pulling it apart to measure, putting it back together, finding an uprated bush, wait for it to be delivered, then pull it apart again to fit!

Thanks,

Rob

Its not the same size. You can't get uprated ones specifically for the V6.

Miles supplied me with a specially machined mount with a (TU?) bush already pressed in. Probably best to ask him!

The solid XU bushes are slightly larger than the V6 bush. You can machine out the V6 mount and press an uprated one in.

I had Miles sort me with a modded Tu one

So a TU bush be too small I take it? So a possibility would be to make a sleve to press into the v6 mount, then press a TU bush into the sleve?

Either that or go for the nylon bush that I can knock up and fit without removing the engine!!

A solid Nylon type was what we fitted to AdamB's engine, got it off Andy Gwynne, came in a TU 106/saxo bracket iirc.

only noticed the vibrations at idle, but being a V6 it wasn't anywhere near as bad as a gti6 on the BBM rubber mount.

Well I've sent miles a PM, but I think I'll probably go for a solid nylon jobbie, seeing as the vibrations aren't going to be as bad as I thought, even if they are, this is the cheapest option. I think I've still got some nylon left, even if I haven't, £10 will sort that out!

I bought a tu one off stu (20 i think) then a small honeing tool off ebay (about a tenner) that fits in a drill and slowly honed the mount out until the tu bush fitted. I think a xu bush would be to large to get to fit.

Ah, so the TU is bigger as well? But not much?, I'll dig a tu mount out and measure that to get somewhere near, then do the final machining with the car in bits.

Cheers,

Rob

What do you V6ers do in the way of driveshafts? Is it just a case of chopping the required amount out of the V6 shafts and welding them up or do they need sleeving? What's the best way of measuring the length they need to be, I'm a little unsure, is it when the wheels are hanging?

Any info would be great, cheers

Paul (thirdtimelucky) is the man for driveshafts, he did mine last weekend and has done quite a few others for people, there hollow so he cuts them, removes what's required puts a sleeve on the inside and welds them back up, does a top job you'd struggle to tell were they've been welded.

Did you supply the measurements or does he know them already?

He knows them already, he made me a set too. They worked with 309 wishbones and 205 wishbones :)
