Larger Alternator Pully, Anybody Changed Theirs?

Recommended Posts

parry

Hi all,

Has anybody successfully been able to increase the diameter of the alternator pully to reduce the revolutions of the alternator. My car is a dedicated race car and I dont think the akternators were designed to run at 7000rpm all day.

The reason I am thinking this way is that I have noticed looking at the data logger that the voltage is getting upto 17v after 20 or so laps. Its fine for 5 lap sprints, but when doing enduros, it starts to climb gradually.

It could be a faulty regulator, or it might be getting hot from trying to keep the voltage down.

Any thoughts?

Attached is the log over 60 laps.

See here-

Near the bottom there are the Peugeot pulleys, also with some available undersize to drive the alternator more slowly. I am fairly sure Carl has these on the shelf if you require one.

Carl DID have these on the shelf before i bought the last undersize one he had on the shelf (see my photobucket account for pics), still worth a call to see if or when he will be making another batch.

My new engine will run a Force Racing Undersize 113mm Alternator Crank Pulley and a Colin Satchell Oversize 90mm Alternator pulley so should underdrive the little 40amp Nippon Denso Alternator nicely.

Do you have the model number for the Nippon Denso Alternator. I am guessing it is lighter than the standard Mitsubishi one.

Just get the regulator fixed. I wouldn't spend money on it until you put the 16v in. From my recollection offset is different between 8v and 16v.

16v would be good, have we sorted out the solid lifters yet!

I suggested moving up to 33mm open buckets. Just get your cheque book out!

Then buy some new Kawasaki buckets from Arrow and get the bores enlarged.
