easiest is to just fix it and make it work as intended.

its a pretty bloody simple system consisting of a permanent live feed, a 3 pin thermoswitch, a low speed resistor, and the fan itself.

points to check are the supply itself, and the earth, there's a test connector on the loom too, you bridge the middle terminal to either of the outer wires to test low/high speed fans from memory.

If you were to use a manual over-ride switch you'd probably have to go through a relay as most switches would not handle the load. I have one on my Special but wired it in when I built the car.

I would have thought that the easiest way forward is first to check that the fan actually runs by connecting a feed directly from the battery to the fan. If this works then replace the thermo switch. They are not expensive to replace and this will save you all the hassle of new wiring, mounting a switch and relay. Just my opinion mind.

the main problem with cooling fans on these pugs is the temp switch in rad is switching a live and over time burns contacts out.

personally i got rid of all the pug wiring including resistor, fitted a 2 way temp switch and had it switch an earth for a relay coil.the fan has got a permanent live feed fused from shunt box so all the relay does is supply earth to fan.

hopefully working like this it should prove to be more reliable.
