Xsara/307 Trip Computer

Has anyone attempted putting the trip computer fro a 307/Xsara into a 309/205? The VTS I've been knocking about in temporarily has this stalk controlled computer (as did my dad's 307 SW) and it's a really cool gadget. Does anyone have a schematic or diagram of the system? Does it run off the engine ECU or does it have its own somewhere in the car? If I can find all sensors and wiring associated to it before I scrap the VTS shell I'll try and put it in the 309 and do a write up.

I think a lot of it works off the ECU and isn't it multiplex?

multiplex? My thinking is that it's all just a bunch of wires going from one thing to another in some way, so if I can find what they all are why can't I just plonk it into the 309 along with the VTS engine?

Youre sort of right ,But it could be a case of change everythink over i,e all the wires ,Because there all tied together somehow i,e the radio might be connected to the electric windows so if no radio no windows ,Just an example ,Think of it as a ring circuit with all the messages (what the car or gadgets need to do) traveling around it untill the gadget that understands it stops the message ,So there fore you woul have to take everythink out of the vts ,

I might be getting a little confused with the above confusing canbus with multiplex but im think there the same thing someone correct me if im wrong,

Its do able though mate ,I think you would need to work out what all the binary codes were and work out wich gadgets you could do without ,Alot of time but i bet it would be a one off thing and no one else would have it ,

Id try it ,just pull the lot out work out were it gets it power from i,e a shunt box ,and connect the lot up try it then cut some off wich isnt being used i,e the radio loom etc then see if still works .If not connect it back up and move on to the next bit that isnt being used by you

hope this helps might be alot of giberish because im tired

Edit sorry ive just read your post properly about the engine aswell i bet you could used the whole lot but you`ll probably have to take the ignition or chip reader thing ,fuel pump possibly depending how its wired up.then abs sensors unless its uses a vss ,i cant think of anything else you would need

I asked this question a few weeks ago, I was told that because the multiplex loom is for abs e.t.c, when it was fitted into the 205, one would have problems getting it to run correctly, as it would come up with abs faults and things of that nature. i am not sure if it has been done or not. would be sweet tho, mpg meter digi dash.

.edit.

i should have my ph2 vts engine out this weekend, so i can strip the car of the loom, and see how messed up it is!

If you could work out the pattern of a working abs sensor then i think you could make something to generate the same signal .A bit to advanced for me but my boss has got something on his evo to trick the ecu into thinking the afm is still there when its not ,I think it uses some sort of algorythm depending tps etc ,

Its do able depends weather you want to go into computer programing aswell though

after a good think about this, i am quite intent with using my re-settable odometer, and a fuel recipt collection, at the end of the day we dont fit an xu10j4rs ... or anything else that runs on multiplex in the donor vehicle for fuel economy. just a bit of a gimik that maybe i wish i never bothered with!

when the loud pedal is down, i dont want something in LCD telling me that i am doing 8 mpg! i would rather pretend the fuel gauge only works when i am going down hill, that is the true reading... and i will definately get home on the fumes even if the wee yellow light has been on for 15 mile, and i have got 20 left!

^^ hehe, ignorance is bliss! I have a GPS heads up display app on my phone that reflects my speed in the windscreen so I don't have to look away. It's great apart from the "ECO" meter that goes bright red when the pedal goes down, because I'm driving un-eco-friendly.

Seems like an interesting project idea. I'll take a few readings from things like ABS sensors etc and see what unplugging/replicating them does to the computer. I've not been in there for ages but last time I checked we had a specific ECU lab in the uni where they play around with things like this out of jaguars.
