Motronic 3.1 Wiring

Recommended Posts

Ive been looking over the diagrams and ive got the loom with 2 seperate relays and wiring it should be easy enough but ive got a phase 1 car and this loom seems to be off a car with all the optional extras, AC, lambda etc.

Will i benefit at all from wiring in a lambda sensor seeing as the wiring is already there? If so what lambda would i use? A link would be nice if somebody knows the correct item?

And it also has the diagnostic light and plug facility (k-light?) Ive found some info about wiring it in so assuming ive got a location for a bulb i can get it wired in too? Again, any benefit?

And finally, can i cut out all the diagnostic plug wires that dealers would have used? And all the AC wiring? (just cut it out at the main ecu plug?) And if theres no benfit to the lambda then just cut that out too?

What car is the loom from & what's it going into?

None of my MP3.1 looms have the wiring for the Lambda sensor but you can safely remove the a/c wires rom the loom imo, I have removed them rom other looms to be itted into a 205 without issue.

With regards to the K light, if you have a phase 2 1.9 its very likely you just need to connect the wire from the ecu to the brown plug under the dash & fit a bulb into your dash for it to work. Earlier 1.9's & the 1.6's need more wiring work because they were never sold in the UK with any system that used the K light.

Fitting this ecu into a phase 1 205 won't be harder than into a phase 1.5 / 2 car but it will take longer due to having to search for some of the wires needed to join together for it to work instead o them all being in the drivers footwell.

Which diagnostic plug wires do you mean? From the donor loom or your car?

Graham.

I did look at a few diagrams but i think i was getting mixed up between the two! (one showed CO-potentiometer version and one showed lambda, I think one of the wires for the lambda was fitted (power) so i assumed i had a ecu with it.

I have since chopped the ECU wiring and reduced it all down by some considerable amount (see my project thread) so that the ECU will fit in the bay, as i had the bx gti loom it was designed with the ECU under the drivers seat. I dont need that much wire so ive chopped out a good metre or so if not just over of wiring and im awaiting delivery of some new plugs and pins etc.

The diagnostic ones are for the pug diagnostics kit from the ECU, the wires in that part of the loom are tacho signal, k-light and 2 diagnostics signal wires, so assuming i can just cut those out? As im running a phase 1 car (F-reg) ill just cut out the k-light wire too?? If somethings wrong im sure ill notice the car before i notice the dash!
