Evo Fq 340

hi all ive just been offered a 2004 plate evo FQ340 from a guy that uses my work.

He offered me it for much cheapness as he needs money for a deposit on a house.

I checked the going price for them and ive been offered it for around 2-3k cheaper than they seem to go for on the net .

I know its a good car as we have worked on it for the past year and a bit and it has only got sensible mods.

Ive got insurance quotes and there pretty good 491 buck for fully comp

Does any one have one on here as im needing to find out what like running costs are also the tax is up next month?

If i was to buy it i would just run it for the year then sell it (hopefully making a little profit) as my 205s put a bigger smile on my face and i couldnt live without them.

Cheers if any one has any info.

Richard

Friends have a 360 MR, seems to take the (hard) abuse they give it well and it's pretty impressive but flattering/easy to drive fast/boring, but still i apreciate it's very capable!

My friend Jim had a tuned one (approx 400bhp).

Was just about the fastest car I've ever been in point to point, stopped very very well too.

It was terrible on fuel as I'm sure you're expecting, think 20mpg was about the best he got.

The clutch did go bang but there were otherwise only a couple of very small problems (read small as cheap - clutch was fairly big money).

my mate has got an evo9 fq340 and i think they're brilliant, he spent less than a grand and got boost controller, fuel pump and remap and its running 400hp, not alot on the road can keep with it, 6 gears 180mph what more do you need, evos were built to take punishment. launches all day and 12 sec quarter mile and with you not being too far from crail should provide plenty smiles till you get back to 205's

sorry but his is a fourth car so couldn't really comment on running costs

is the evo a 54 plate red one as i was offered one a while back and it was cheaper than usual

hope the video works

The evo wouldnt be my every day car.

Id still rather drive the rallye.

Only thing is the money I have saved was for my mi to get finished and then my rallye done so it would would put these on hold till i sold the evo and hopefully made a profit.

And im not completly sure about that.

Its a black 04 plate 50k on the clock and as i said I have carried out most of the work on it over the last year and driven it a few times But its a bit modern for me. Also it would be my first non 205 in 10 years of driving feel like a traitor even thinking about it.

I assume it is a IX?

A friend has had a VI, VII, IX and a X and the IX was the most rewarding of them.

The handling is amazing and are supposed to be very easy to drive, you don't need to be a pilot to drive it fast (same goes for Subarus that's why I miss the 205).

reading this above i feel that this is the answer to your original question, why buy it if your just going to look out on to the drive and say i wish my 205 was running instead, so we now have to assume your doing it just for a profit, all i can say is if there was money to be made (hopefully) why run it for a year buy it and sell it just now.

No point buying a car and not using it.

It might be difficult to buy and sell a car straight away as potential buyers would be suspicious of the reasons sold immediately after buying (accident/mechanical damage?)

If it's an itch that you want to scratch, you know the car is a good one and it is really priced £2-3k less than similar examples, then what have you got to lose? Buy it, enjoy it for a few months, and sell nearer the summer when the car market picks up again - unless you're unlucky enough to blow something up, you're unlikely to lose much money and you'll have the enjoyment of the Evo.

I was about to say exactly what anthony said, it's going to be pretty cheap thrills!

They are bloody quick and the handling is awesome on the wet, I was taken out for a spin in a VIII yesterday (more than 370 bhp) and it really shifts!

Only modifications were filter/exhaust/exhaust housing from a IX and a remap. He managed 12.9 in a quarter mile.

This will be an awesome car mate. I ran a 300bhp evo 8 over christmas and only used it to 10% of its ability but it was an amazing machine. Be prepaired for a bone shaking ride and regular visits to the petrol station. That said, they are remarkably practical and easy to use at low speeds.

The power is delivered in a sharp peak at high revs so it doesnt catch you out at all. You have to be willing the car on to get max performance but it is totally addictive.

The fact your mate is broke would concern me slightly as they cost a lot to properly maintain (4.5k mile service intervals) so if this has lapsed components could be suffering.

Good luck with it but dont count on selling it for a proffit after 12 months as it may not be as easy to shift as you think.

I'm not on bad money with my job but I see evo ownership as a lifestyle choice rather than a necessity and a lifestyle choice that would cost more than I can justify funding.

good luck either way

Trust me bud thats not a bad thing! The Evo will see you be-friending the local shell garage for more super unleaded than the 205 will.

Mines twice the power of the 205 and twice the running cost. Thats about the best way to sum it up. I'm very happy with both the 205 and the Evo, they are both the cars I've always wanted.
