Be3 Gearbox

Recommended Posts

I have a 309 gti and i put a new gearbox in it a be3 and i was told it was from a 1.9 205 gti.

But when im driving it at 60 its reving at 3000rpm. Could this be a 1.6 gearbox?

Or is there any other way of finding out which one it is?

Cheers Ryan

The only way you can estimate what gearbox it is will be by removing the dif housing to find what numbers are stamped on the crownwheel which will tell you the final drive ratio.

It does sound more like a 1.6 GTI box though doing 3k @ 60 mph.

I've been running mine in at 3k for a while and it equates to about 55mph on my 1.6 box (185/55/15 tyres) so it may well be a 1.9. As Graham said only way to be sure is to have a look at the crownwheel

pretty sure a 1.9 box is about 3.5k at 70 MPH.

I would say its a 1.9 box. As said 70 with a 1.9 is about 3500rpm with a 1.6 box its about 4000rpm.

A 1.9 box @ 70mph (20.9mph / 1k rpm) should be reading approx 3300rpm & the 1.6 3600rpm (18.9 mph / 1k rpm).
