Will I Get 200 To 230bhp?

Recommended Posts

MARKMI16

I've done a search and read various other threads about engine power, real/expected/pub talk or what ever. Anyway I would like to ask the question to those with experience about what kind of power I "may" get from my MI16 engine..I'm expecting 200 to 230 bhp, but what will I get?

The spec is as follows;

Alloy 1.9 MI16

lightened and balanced crank

Forged pistons and rods

head flowed and polished by "man in a shed"

uprated valves and valve springs

CAT cams

Jenvey throttle bodies

Bosch 044 fuel pump

Bosch 350cc injectors

Maniflow manifold

OMEX 600 ECU

I think that about covers it.

Mark.

200bhp seems pretty achievable.

Ps you're from Fleet eh?

Cam specs?

But yes 200 should be achievable.

Certainly the lowered end of that range should be achieveable easily enough, the top end somewhat more difficult.

It's really dependant on finer details, not least how effective (or otherwise) the porting was, what profiles the cams are, how well put together and setup the engine package is and how good the map is.

Just chucking random parts together and making a nice spec sheet is unlikely to create an epic engine, as it all needs to be thought through and the parts compliment each other. Have a read of some of Sandy's engine builds on here and you can see how it's the planning and tiny details that make all the difference

Thanks, and a very valid point you make. All the parts have been carefully chosen to make a great track car with high and useable power and torque across the rev range. I will find out about the head and cam details..

Concur here - 190 to 200 should be doable, depending upon who's rolling road you trust for numbers

The mapping will be done by Abbey Motorsport, who are leading Skyline tuner down in Oxsted, Surrey. Abbey uses a DynaPack hub dyno, which accurately measures power at the hubs.

I've been using Abbey for 10 years on servicing all my previous Skyline GTR's, and never have I had an issue with their power figures or mapping. It remains to be seen what they can do with a 205 MI16 though...

You need to rev it to make serious hp out of 1905cc. So at 7200-7400 you'll make 200-210hp if the head job is good, but if you want more you'll need solid lifters to hit 8000 and make 230ish.
