Yeh bit too wide, so my next question is can you remove the spacer on the 306 arms without changing the stub axles, or do these need to be changed for standard 1.9 items??

There is a guard on the other side, the side you can see is a wire wheel, with the guard intentionally removed to give better access for whatever is being cleaned down with it.
