C15 Van, Is It A 205 Engine Bay?

Recommended Posts

tomcolinjones

I was just thinking that the C15 had the 1.8 diesel fitted, like to 205 did, being an XU engine, wouldnt it be interesting to fit something like a 2L turbo, or Mi16 in there, on some stiffer springs and shocks and leave the rest? i think it is what one would call a street sleeper!

I have done a search, and i couldnt find anything on engine conversions, just wondering if anyone else has had a similar idea, or has seen it done?

does the xu diesel have a be gearbox? i havnt realy looked into it, if so linkages wouldnt be a problem either.

Is there any reason why it couldnt be done? the only problem i can think of is an injecion pump, could a capri injection pump be used? a high pressure in line pump.

Or, run it on twin 40's

This is something I've thought of occasionally due to using a c15 van to get to and from work, V6 would be a laugh! I know the engine bay is different to a 205's but I'm sure the mounts are in pretty much the same spots. I also wondered if the rear coil spring set up would bolt onto a 205.

its a Visa front end, the visa gti ran 1.6 gti 205 underpinnings.

Darren (VisaGTi16v) had one with an Mi16 in it.

very late C15's used the DW8 engine, I think you last one I saw was on a 53 plate!!

There was a Visa van at the first French Car Show years ago running Mi16 power. Looked totally standard too

so it is easily done then, what about struts, are they the same as 205? the struggle would also trying to find one that is not rotten!

It's all (unsurprisingly) been talked about before to quite some depth.

But from me, yes, do it! My dad built Darren's Visa mentionned above originally, so I've always wanted to do another or a C15, especially having a couple of farmer mates that have a strange attraction to C15's too!

Sadly, i think '55 plate was the end of the line since its been replaced by the Citroen Nemo....a van thats only claim to fame is having failed the 'elk' test......and why not take the inline fuel pump from a the 405 mi16 that you get the engine from!? Or are they low pressure?

I've considered using a C15 van for fun and am aware that the front end is 'easy'.

What rear end did your dad use for the conversion?

Visa rear end is fully independent coilover struts.

C15 is a horizontal coilover damper unit and a trailing arm of some sort, never been under one to see exactly how it works.

That's the c15 back end.

Would be interesting to see if it could be fitted to the old 205, looks a bit heavier than the TB setup but having an actual spring may prove useful!

I think it'd be more constructive trying to fit the Visa setup to a 205 tbh.

that arrangement still has the drawbacks of a high wheel to damper rate and non-vertical damper.

True, leverage ratio looks massive.

I'm sure someone told me they did a 4x4 version in france? No idea on running gear though...

My ex-brother in law and I used to blat round in an ear-splitting loud C15 with Visa gt engine and front suspension. It was utterly mental but seemingly unbreakable. The most memorable trip was a drive to Spa Franchamps towing a race 2CV.

I think he bought off a guy called Pete Sparrow who had a Citroen specialist garage caled PTS or something. Their other creation was a tuned 1.9 TD with 205 GTI front subframe and that was, apparently, a bit of a handful...

Firstly bit OT but I feared my Visa would be gutted for parts when I sold it but the bloke used it quite a lot in 2010, 100% reliable, my road cars have never been like that! He did just try and flog it to get a Darian but wanted double what he paid me for it so naturally it didnt sell....

Anyway, yes can fit lots in a C15. The Visa diesel and GTi were widened at the front for the larger engines, im not sure if the petrol C15's were. This one below (ironic number plate) with the Mi16 ("putting out 200bhp with just some tweaking, cough, I had to keep my mouth shut at that point!) he said it originally only had single wishbones at the front and he swapped to a diesel setup so maybe all C15's were wide. Might just be simpler to get a Berlingo if you wanted a cheap PSA van, at least they had PAS as an option

Ok for some reason I cant find my photos, will dig them out tonight

Here you are, more rear wheels are always good as well. Full length manifold is fine with no extra engine tilting if you move the radiator forward an inch which is simple although I then had to get a slimmer fan in my GTi

My only problem with them, is they are bloody awful looking!

I'd go for a GTI6'd partner/berlingo...
