Ignition Leads - Where To Buy?

Recommended Posts

Pugdaddy

Have read the advice on numerous threads about which brands are good and decided to look for either Beru or Motaquip.

I have 1992 1.6 GTi and would like to buy at motor factor rather than online (to be sure of correct fit as I've had hassle in the past).

Anyone know where I can source either of these brands in the Cambridgeshire / Suffolk area?

Many thanks

Thanks Damir

Looks like Euro Car Parts may supply Pro Spark (based on press release Sept 2010) and they've got a store in town just 15 minutes from me. Strangely the eurocarparts.com site doesn't list XU5JA so I'll visit them and they can have a look before ordering anything. Puts the onus on them to get it right and less grief for me if wrong!

They appear to be only £15 or so? I had double that budget in mind but if you recommend them I may as well keep the change for the next part needed - new ignition amp in my sights unless anything else crops up before then!

Beru are the brand I've used the most, seem to be pretty good, Bougicord iirc are the proper o.e items.

I've used Bosch ones before. They lasted forever!

The main thing is male or female Dizzy connectors and the coil location, mind the last couple of sets of leads have had both types supplied

yeah, that's what the Beru kit from GSF were like when I bought some 3 or 4 years ago.

With the following detail can anyone give me the specific part number or code for my car (e.g. GSF Beru leads):

Engine code is 20CB62 or XU5JA / XU5JA/K (I think the latter)

Probably B6E as registered May 1992 but could be late B6D?

Dizzy code is 0237 009 086 - has long fingers which leads attach to

Coil mounted above inlet manifold

Ignition amp on left close to fuel filter

I'm happy to order online is confident in correct version.

Thanks for all help and advice so far.

Yup, as Miles said - Phase 2 1.6 GTi = 1.9 GTi ignition leads.

It's the earlier 1.6 GTi's that use the different leads.

Yours should be a screw-on dizzy cap with male connections with an an inlet-mounted coil, identical to a 1990-on 1.9 GTi.

Pefect, thanks both. The 1.9 leads on my late 1600 explains my hesitance and memories of getting in a mess last time.

Yes, screw on dizzy so I'm clear on what I need and where to go

Cheers
