I got my bellhousing yesterday - a compact Type-9 from Raceline (very good service btw!) - so went down to mock up the gearbox.

The engine & box are offset to counter some of the driver's weight.

I won't be using a T-9, that's just for mocking up purposes so I can get an idea of that my tunnel clearance is; I'll most likely use a Drenth DG400HD as it can cope with the torque my engine should produce a lot better than a Sadev would (500Nm vs 350Nm max). The good thing is I can get away with narrowing the driver's side of the transmission tunnel by some 50mm or so and still have clearance for everything, which should make the seating position a lot better.

I didn't read every reply in this topic, what are your plans for the dashboard ? Do you want to fit something similar to T16 road version ?

I can see them all fine on the PC but not the phone, I think its photobucket being a cock, mainly why I don't bother using it these days and use FlickR instead.

I'm sure PB is designed by Microsoft!

Para - The dash will basically be a MoTeC / AIM or something like that, I haven't decided which one yet.. but whatever it is it'll be a multi-function dash & data logger and a few warning lights, a shift light and gear indicator. I'll have all the switches and fuses in the central part which will be panelled over.

right, first things first....

from a fabrication point of view- **** me son, your on a mission aint ya!! haha very neat scalloping and from what i`ve seen, tidy welds too!! i like this!!

but...

post #877 last pic... why does the centreline of the engine/gearbox look to be too far towards the right (looking at pic) compared to the diff????

or is it just me????

Hello sausage! :D

The engine is shifted over by 30mm to try and offset some of the component weight up front (turbo & manifold mostly) and a little bit of the driver weight, and the input to the diff is 20mm offset so that the driveshafts are equal length. It's actually quite a gentle angle on the prop, though.. even if I were to use the Type 9 box it would only end up as 6.5Deg on the UJ angles, and with the shorter Drenth I plan to use it's only 4.5Deg so shouldn't cause any problems. :)

ahhhhh ok.... i see...

yeah them ol turbos and fanimolds are more than your average paperweight especially if you start looking at external wastegates hung out there too...

exhaust routing should be doable, what are you thinking 3" under the car?? think yourself lucky i used to spend days trying to route 5" pipework on the trucks!! haha

Hahaha sounds like fun! Yeah 3" is probably about right, I may have to squeeze the pipe slightly where it passes the corner of the 'box but it should be ok.

Coming on well, I still see you are determined to stick with the duratec, they really arent what people think they are. Good up to a point but like sandy says there arent many options. If you were determind to stay Ford you should have gone with the 2.3 MZR engine same bolt pattern as the duratec and would have been a solid 300+ from stock engine. Or even a 2l disi must be plenty of those knocking about out the back of dunton!

K....20....

I test fitted the seat afterwards, just to see if it was possible to shoe-horn it in there, and.. it isn't. I'm going to pinch the tunnel in 50mm where it starts to slope up to the dash bar, and that should give me plenty of room.
