Wow... This is going to be a lot better than anything peugeot has put on the road...

Are you planning on going completetly T16 style? or just the cooling-duct?

Read your post on the first page, guess you're going all dimma :) nice

Hahaha YES Alex! :D

Willem - not Dimma anymore, that was too heavy. It'll be just custom arch extensions a la Berg Cup cars.

Too heavy? Looks like a silhouette racer already, a bit of fiberglass / ABS-plastic wouldn't add to much??!

I bought a Dimma kit and it weighed a f***ing tonne.

If you read the project you'll see I'm doing carbon clamshells. :P

unfortunately i don't have all day to read all 41 pages... i will read them all, only not in one day :)

Very nice project! Are you keeping notes on the money spend on it? Sure isn't a budget-built-car

Yeah I have a budget planner and records of every penny spent so far. No I'm not going to share details of either. :P

budget planner = pay - rent + savings + overdraft

standard really.

Yeah that's basically it; essentially I have an Excel file telling me how long I'm going to be completely skint.

Alfa and Miami will be sold soon to pay for my Sadev box; by the time I've bought that I'll be half way through the cost of the build. The good thing about that is the rest of the parts require very little saving and just get bought as and when I need them.

Given the work, you need a pro job IMHO

Are you saying I won't be able to do a proper job? :P

Not really, I always have a little laugh on PH or whatever when people thrown money at race/rally car builds and get an awesome paintjob...after the first season racing they're invariably buying dodgy coloured replacement bumpers and panels and rattle canning them in the shed to get back out on the racetrack.

Said it before but I'll say it again: Awesome project Cam and it's good to hear you're on the mend and I can look forward to enjoying a Sunday evening catching up on the latest progress!!!!

Surely the clam shell is going to cost a pretty penny? You logging you hours on it?

with a home made mould.... It could be a cost effective simpler option.

Well I have my fair share of experience spraying two pack, we have a huge unit, a gun, an air fed ventilation mask and a very good paint supplier. So cam can either do it himself using that and get a finish that is proportional to the amount of effort he puts it (which going by the 205 work so far is a lot), or he can pay someone A LOT of money to have a finish that is out of his hands...

Shalmaneser (sorry I don't know your real name  ) and Alex are spot-on.

Firstly, there's absolutely no reason why it's not possible to get a good paint finish DIY, and secondly whatever paint job I go for it will only get damaged as I race / crash / transport / maintain the car. Franky I can see much better things to spend £2k on than a coat of paint that will look good for all of 5 mins and then be difficult to maintain or repair.

One solid colour and some vinyl go-faster stripes / slogans - that's the motorsport way. :D

I know a vinyl wrapper maynnn, he does a good job, few fiestas kicking about with his wraps that don't look bad ;)

Vinyl wrap would be awesome.. could you have a word with him? Price dependant obvs.. I was just gonna go for a few stripes but a whole wrap could well be lighter than paint. :D

Absolutely on the money for me. When I had my competition car sprayed, I simply went to a good friend and local body shop owner. We discussed, and he asked how good I wanted the finish. I said to him, within a couple of events it'll be battered and bruised, there'll be scrapes on the front wings and bumpers from hay bales and cones, the back arches will be peppered with gravel rash, and so forth - it's just not worth it. So he did a job proportional with the money I gave him, and I'm very happy with it. It's a rally car, not a show car.

are you going to vacuum bag it? or wet layup and cure. Watching that video i posted, if you can vac bag (price of the compressor and materials) the finish was quite impressive.
