If you have the balls to bring it to Cadwell, I'll tap you up for a pax lap :)

I'm going to be doing track days pre-season, I think the first place I'll take it is Oulton Park as I love the track and know it quite well. I haven't been to Cadwell but I'll need to get used to being brave on the technical stuff so it's very likely that I'll show up.

Passenger laps will mean I need to buy another seat , so I might not have the cash to make that happen straight away.

Ok I'll bear it in mind. :)

It's more than likely that I'll be there in my Clio Cup between now and the build being finished, so let me know if you're there anytime soon.

Looks like someone has already built a 206 version

That looks like them stock rod cars?

i work collegue has a spaceframed race rod thing, was a 206, well a fibreglass shell over a spaceframe, now hes in the process of taking it from racing forum and putting a buble arches mk1 escort over the top that had a rusted out floor pan, ive not seen it with the escort shell but sounds awesome non the less

Evening! So I have been very busy the past couple of weeks polishing the last details of my suspension design, and I'm happy to say it is now 99% complete! :D

I have been doing lots of analyses and CAD checks to make sure they are good for strength and fatigue, using all the tools I've developed over the past 2 years.

Here's some pics of the finished front and rear upright designs, I'll upload more when I get time over the weekend.

how on earth are those going to be fabricated!

Sheet metal and a bit of trickery, my friend! :D

It's all flat surfaces and simple curves, really; I know it looks rather complicated (and I'm not saying it'll be easy by any stretch of the imagination) but they've been designed with their manufacture in mind. :)

jigs, metal forms and a lathe, like most custom uprights...

All looks do-able to me in bits and pieces.

Hefty machined center in the front. I take they are made from steel?

All looks very good. Love this project, big respect to you for the effort going into this, true dedication and craftmanship. Would love to see it in the flesh some time.

Pretty similar construction to some S1600 saxo hubs I have seen which are the same as Xsara WRC afaik, they use two large diameter very large bore narrow taper roller bearing I think.

Yeah both uprights will have two single row TRB's, the same parts front & rear. I have designed a lot of components on the car to use the same front & rear to save complexity and reduce the mount of spares needed.

Great pic Alex, if you think my design is complicated then have a look at some Touring Car / F1 uprights before they went to billet Ti.

The central part of the front upright is hollow and has radial webs internally for load distribution, then is covered up with thin sheet for stiffness; it's actually a very light design. :)

Today has been a GOOD day! :D

I've been a little preoccupied the past few weeks, so I thought I'd have a proper day of it today to make up for it. The great thing is I got a s*itload done but didn't ruin myself, so things are definitely starting to look like they're on the mend. Anyway.. PICS!

First off, I started with the two tunnel side rails to join the front & rear together:

Then made a little jig for the windscreen bar:

DSC02987_zpsd95678a1.jpg

And soon got that in too. :)

So I decided it was about time the engine went in so I can check clearances etc:

Then thought, why not put the front panel in place and see how much space there will be for cooling. The answer is - A LOT!

So I'm pretty bloody happy with that! :D

You will be able to duct out the radiator air like the t16. You are going to need a proper style bonnet!

That's the plan! :D Will have a ducted cooling pack similar to a Lotus Elise.

More work today! :D

First up I got the remainder of the tunnel & dash bars in place:

Then moved on to the rocker pillars & engine bay braces.

There's just a few more tubes now until the front end is complete. :)
