Bought A Car I Didn't Need!

Recommended Posts

Woke up today and was flicking through PH's and came across this little beaut!

http://pistonheads.com/sales/2236844.htm

Well, I think so. It was only 25miles from me and a mate took me down this afternoon and I brought the cash with me. As per the in depth description there is absolutly no rust, as you can see the boot is scrap but thats about it for the body. There is a awful chav cannon hanging out the back :) but the owner gave me the standard one and valance has not been cut. the dash lights don't work but thats because the dimming switch and collum cowling is missing.

MOT tomorrow, see how it goes. It drives perfect and is the first time I'v driven a TU3s and its nippy!

The main reason i bought it was because it will amazing be massively cheaper to insure than my Diesel.

Only problem is the ignition barrel has lost its 'spring' - can this be repaired?

Cool beans :) I'm liking your 205 related impulsiveness

I fancy something like that for thrashing to and from work, rather than the missis (boring) astra!

She would kill me if I got another car though!

Have fun!

After driving the diesel sinse september with slightly out tracking and a sloppy gear change i can't wait to get it on the road. It has no MOT or Tax but I'm fully comp and booked it in for an MOT before I left so I could drive it back. I can't see anything obvious why it would fail an MOT, fingers crossed!

My old GT lost its spring, you had to make sure you pulled it back in the ignition once it started or it'd continue cranking, too far the other way and none of the electrics worked, I managed to deal with it though.

It looks a bit beaten up and tatty, but I suspect that you'll probably end up in profit by the time that you've sold the diesel so its not the end of the world.

I don't know if you've properly driven an XS before, but if it's a good one then they're a riot frankly with a revvy engine, short ratio box and agile handling thanks to the lack of weight over the nose. Drive it, and you'll understand why I'm utterly bemused by the attention and premium that a Rallye demands when it's a hopelessly inferior and dull car by comparison.

I regret selling my XS :)

All this talk makes me want to fix my Xs and get it back on the road! :)

EDIT: Note to self, pull the finger out. Gather up some money and put up a wanted post for parts. Repair 205, enjoy driving again!

Allye, if its any consolation i'm now driving a peugeot parter on a daily basis and although its practical for work etc, you can't beat climbing back into the seat of a 205!

I shouldn't do really as I've absolutely no need for it, but as and when she decides to sell it give me a shout and I'll see how weak-willed I'm feeling

+1 on a TU3S XS. I loved mine, especially with a swap of the carb jet and a K&N pancake filter. I did testdrive a 1600 GTI at one point when I had mine and couldn't see what all the fuss was about. The S1 106 Rallye I also tried was also good but the grin didn't justify the extra cash against the XS. I did look at a Rallye once and decided it was just a low spec XS which lacked the oomph.

Tony Philpott, the PSOOC chairman, picked up a pearler of an XS for £50 and when it was in the test with Classic and Sports Car, it was the one that people enjoyed driving the most

It really handles great and goes like sh*t off a shovel! Took it down to mates put it on the ramps and took the chav cannon off, which was easy as it was just slid into the sleeve. Also the crettin who put it on butched the centre section so thats £40 extra

About a 5min wash!

Can't wait to get it MOT'd tomorrow!

Whats the colour code/name? Do GTI's come in this colour? The front valance has seen better days.

That is platinum silver and GTIs did come in it. My F plate XS was exactly the same colour. Mine had an olive fit exhaust so I am guessing that is what it originally had, pre-butchering

Every panel on the car has seen better days Ali ;)

I still have all the bits from my Xs engine in my garage, so if you need any parts give me a shout, I have a rebuilt carb and all sorts somewhere!

Almost  Only a couple, I could pull them out if I could be bothered. A new boot and valance and she'll be alright! I'll paint the wheels silver as well. Not spending much money on it though. The Rallye is there to consume my money :D

What does a tatty, 22 year old car fail an MOT on? Alot?

NO! just N/S F flexi pipe and thats it. Best £240 car ever! Both MOT chaps commented on how tidy it was (underneath  )

The exhaust is now standard as well, engine is sound and pulls great, one of the best if not the best handling car I'v ever driven. On a par with the Rallye at least, which was on spax set up all round :D
