Hello,

I'm on my second 307 first one was a 52 plate GLX 2.0L 110bhp planty of bells and whistles pleasent car to drive (read easy and with up to 60 mpg on a longish run) but the flywheel gave out on it which i was told by the garage was a common fault with them, after that i had several power issues with it eventually ending up with the fuel system getting metal contamination of some sort requiring about £2000 worth of parts 2 weeks before the warrenty expired.

Spoke to the garages sales department and managed to get a very good trade in along with a good deal on the end of line 55 plate Quicksilver i have now 2.0L,136 BHP (same as the XSi HDI) again with plenty of "Stuff" on it. performance is not blistering althought it will leave the 205 behind in a straight line!! and the fuel economy is about 10-15 Mpg worse than the previous car ahve had a couple of electrical issues sorted under warrenty panel lighting would not dim on dash top display required main computer change!! and have an as yet unresolved niggle with power "blip" at 2000 rpm in hot weather!!!

So to sum up reasonably good all round car not about to set the world on fire but competent. Only been let down twice by them but since we swapped the Zafira (the one i collected your old leathers in) for an MX5 my wife has used it most of the time and is very happy with it as "with the 307 you can switch off and drive easily not like the MX5 which ou have to concentrate to drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" her words not mine.

hope this helps, if you need anything else give me a shout

Roddie

Miles

A average car, I know when I was testing them on a launch when new, all 5 we had went back for various things, But on a positive nore the engines good, Box good, Brakes good, Handing average,

Compared to the 100 odd Focus's we had around 10% of them went wrong.

Had one many moons ago, not an XSi but the Rapier HDi. OK as a family car but thats about it. I thought it was pretty good until I tried/tested other marques. Handling is dull, engine isn't the greatest diesel out there and the servicing is pricey for what it is. I'd try and persuade her to go for a Focus TDCi, great value for money.

I have a 90 HDI Rapier which is on 64k and I've owned it for over 5 years and it is so reliable it is untrue. I have only had one light come on for a dirty rear ABS sensor, changed a couple of wishbones and balljoints, but that is more down the the quality of Sheffields potholed and speedbump ridden roads where it does most of its miles. A lot of the poor handling came down to the monster profile on the 15" Apollo alloys. Switching to 17" wheels as on the XSI with their 205/50/17 profile tyres made a lot of difference. The 90 is the stronger engine as it doesn't have the DMF. I find mine can have some nice balanced lift off oversteer and responds well to left foot braking.

There is a bit of a blog on mine here http://psooc.com/entries/6-307-hdi-90 and in the latest Torque magazine

I have an 02 307 D turbo 110BHP. I really like the car nice and roomy lots of toys, comfortable for a family of 4 and associated junk, not the fastest diesel out there but has more than enough go.

But it is always throwing warning lights up, mainly to do with the filter in the exhaust, and ABS warning lights, all working ok at the moment though, not overly expensive just lots of sensors at £40 each, plus a fault code reset.

If you do buy find someone who can read and reset the fault codes for free as this will save you loads, I belive Peugeot charge at least £40 a connection. Also beware of the dual mass flywheels fitted to most of the models, as they can be a problem.

Also make sure the DPF filter has been changed recently as are expensive to change, as is the fuel additive about £120 for 4 litres and is main dealer only.

Do a search on the net for ""307 problems to understand what can go wrong with them, hope this helps.

We looked a 1.6 today, but just seen a 2.0 with half the miles for 500 quid more

Going to look at that instead.

Its gonna be hers, I will rarely drive it so its not about the performance.

I have the 205 for fun and 306 for lugging crap around!

Thanks guys.

Careful as a lot of the 1.6's are the newer engines compared to the 2.0's and can often have more poke. The 1.6 HDIs share the engine with a lot of other cars like the Fiesta / Focus etc

and i would personally stay well clear of anything with a 1.6 hdi engine. they are more pokey than the 2.0 but they also have immense problems with regards to turbo's going tits up.

She has decided she wants the 2.0 as it has the 6speed box and will therefore be more economical on longer motorway journeys

The XSI is the 136 bhp 16v engine iirc.

Yes it is

And i can confirm it handles quite a bit better on 17in alloys compaired to the 16in

We have got the 307 GTi HDi.

Very comfy,

Enough power,

Good box,

Good brakes,

Looks pretty good.

Fitted the bill of exactly what we wanted, even has 5 doors. The 6 speed box is nice to use, you'll love it! End up finding you try slamming it into reverse every now and again once your out of it though!
