Unusual Xu10j2te Conversion Questions

Recommended Posts

JR20516V

Has anybody included the air conditioning in their 2.0 8v conversion or does it simply make the lump not fit?

Also what is the weight of a Xantia CT lump? [did a search for this to no avail ]

Which loom do other peeps use for this conversion....the donor car or the 205's ?

Any tips gladly appreciated :}

Are you talking about the condensor or the compressor? Move to Tassie JR.

I'm talking mainly condensor probably as that will be the biggest item i'd say.

Im gonna be interested in this one too. I think its going to be the same as the usual XU10 conversions JR as they are the same blocks as GTi6. Im hoping to fit the condenser down the front with the rad in the new lower bracket getting fabricated up. ( If i end up running aircon )

The compressor isn't an issue. It just bolts to the sump as usual. The condensor isn't an issue either, unless you're running an intercooler, then I guess it gets a bit crowded up front!

Being able to run air-con is a bonus especially up here in QLD.

Peter........would you say this conversion is on par with an MI conversion? If say an Mi conversion was a six on a scale of one to 10 what number for an average xu10j2te one be....guessing 7 due to i/c items etc.

At the moment this an all Australian talkfest ...a rare thing on a UK site eh? LOL

They're all asleep. I know it's cheap and easy hp, but I'd still have a warm N/A 1.9L 16V over the turbo.

Yes, i read once where you wern't a big fan of the 2.0 8v T' however i have been offered one [a 1998 ] at a good price. Also its a new generation motor over the MI and has 10 years up on it.

In addition it would be nice to do a bit different here in Oz rather than the old well trodden route of the 16 valver IMHO.

I respect your comments tho :}

I'm not going to be of any use here but notice how no one in the UK has even considered keeping the air con and as such we aren't replying despite many having done the conversion! Says a lot!

Sam

EDIT: Seems you guys already noticed that!

Miles

I know it all fits with a Mi or GTi6 engine so the Turbo should be fine, Only thing is mounting a suitable Intercooler, On the engine have a seach but I hate it and think it's the worst engine conversion to fit.

Cheers for that Miles......that clears it up a bit.

Have done many a search right back to 2006 and it seems that Peeps only had the "usual" conversion hiccups which basically comes with any lump change i suppose.

This is why i asked in Post #1 which loom do people use as it doesnt show up in searches. Using the existing 205's loom would obviously have advantages however i have a feeling that the donor car is being used :lol:

The loom is horrible to fit and that is why there are so many bodged 2.0T conversions out there. The standard loom comes out right by the turbo and can easily melt. The loom puts the ECU somewhere by the front headlight which isn't the best either. I had mine reloomed to put the ECU in a 306 battery box and it enters the bulkhead through a new hole under the expansion tank.

Hi Henry....good to hear from you again ! :}

So the standard existing 205 loom cannot be used eh?

no, the turbo ecu wont fit the 205 ecu plug, and there's a few more sensors and actuators on that engine than the original one.

the only conversion I know of that would work the standard 205 ecu is a 2 row Mi16 into a late cat equipped GTI, even then I think it needs a few wires adding.

I think what JR is asking is.

If you have the donor car ( Xantia CT in OZ ) and the 205. Whats the best way to go about wiring it up. Is it better to keep the engine loom and just get power to it and to the dash, or do you have to make up a loom form the 2.
