hi all. can the phase 2 xsara vts be used for the conversion? i know it will have the multi plex wiring so will need a older loom but is that all there is to it? what else is different to the phase 1?

ECU, Some sensors which are more dependant than anything, Maybe exhaust manifold as the later ones had a olive type fitting, the basic engine is fine to use thou

Maybe a stupid question miles, but why cant one use the multiplex loom and ecu? can it not be un-locked or something? dash mounted mpg meter would be prety sweet!

You can if you had the time to do it, But without all the other sensors, ABS etc it will have a fit as everything goes thru the ECU then onto the display, the 406 one is bad enough and with around 4 times the amount of wires it would take age's and cost would be the main factor

miles would you have a problems using a phase 2 then for a conversion? im going to look at one in the next couple of days as a donor car to bring to you in a few months for the conversion.

I used a later type Xsara engine for mine. Threw the loom away and got another ecu from a 306 that was unlocked. I brought a second hand loom but it was not very good so I brought a new ecu plug and made my own loom. The exhaust manifold has a different type connection to the Peugeot one but I just used it with the xsara down pipe and adapted it to fit to the 205 centre pipe. I have replaced the knock sensor because it was only a 2 wire sensor on the xsara not a 3 wire like the Peugeot type. You will need to change this if you use a 306 loom. The map sensor is different to the early 306 but the same as the newer 306 I believe. So you might have to change that depending on what age your loom is.

I can pm you my number if needed.

Neil.

naah, just an arm from any XU7/XU10 from an earlier xsara or any 306, or 405.
