Leather Wheel Re-trim

Recommended Posts

stufarri

I have noticed over the past few months that my phase 2 wheel is looking a bit scabby - the leather is worn in places, it's very shiny and there appears to be nail polish on it in places too (not mine!)

Has anyone had theirs re-trimmed and if so how much please? I'd guess at £100 or so?

I have found a car trimmers near me and I'll call them in the new year for a price.

Thanks

Sorry can't help re price but I have been thinking about getting one retrimmed too.

I bet if done well it would look fantastic afterwards.

Your best bet is go to a horse saddlle shop, they should sort it out for around the £30 mark no problem, car ones would be more expensive afaik.

Nice find, I don't go on DW often enough.

I have some Liquid Leather and 400 grit paper, not sure about the tint though.

What size bolt is the steering wheel secured with?

Sorry for the thread hijack Stu.

Edit: 21mm deep socket needed.

Car ones?

Surgie once again you never fail to baffle me. Horses having steering wheels, what next surgie talking sense.

No worries Jonny.

I have thought about this as a mate repaired a 205 1/2 leather seat to good effect.

I dont have a spray gun though and I Ideally wanted dark red stitching on the wheel too, not sure if this will be OTT or not though? Surely this repair can't compare with fresh matt leather though?

Once I have a price from my local trim shop I'll post it up.

Thanks

Did you actually think about what i wrote ?

A saddle shop makes saddles in leather and they have sorted my steering wheel out before, if its in leather they can do it cheap, infact any leather shop tbh, better there than some expensive car upholstory shop.

Some people are just to far behind the times

And when the wheel is complete you can also replace the GTI badge with a horse brass
