Struggling To Get Gears On My 1.9 Box

Recommended Posts

gaz832

hi folks, was out to edinburgh today and the car ran fine all the way there,on the way home however was a different story, had to ram it in reverse to get the gear. then 1,2,3 where starting to do the same. 4,5th are fine. i recently changed the rods to uprated ones , what other parts could be worn, could it be the pivot points and can these be bought of the shelf . or could it be the gearbox itself as the car is a mi16 now but uses the standard 1.9 gti box, maybe it might be past its best.

clutch cable probably needs adjusting, that's if the gearbox to engine bolts are still there.

it has had a new sports clutch on it , but the peddle needs to be right to the floor as when i let my foot out a little it starts wanting to pull away . is the clutch a easy adjustment. ?

Could be lots of different things

1. Gearbox Bolt

2. Clutch Arm

3. Clutch Arm Bush's

4. Clutch, I'd only use Valeo, LUK or Helix Clutch's

I've read you paid some firm to do the conversion ? What was the warranty ? Take it back ?

What box is on the car ? If BE1 check the lever with the bolt going thorough it (maybe 21/22mm) If it becomes loose good luck getting a gear.

This is when it becomes a problem when you pay some one to do work for you when you don't know much yourself !!

What like is the mechanism on the sub frame ??

I'll bet it is the engine to box bolts loose.

Another vote for adjusting the clutch cable, if the biting point is right on the floor chances are that when you are pressing the clutch pedal there just isn't enough travel to fully disengage the clutch, have had this problem in various 205/405s. Its a real easy job to sort (unless the cable is stretched somehow), just two bolts on the end of the cable; a locknut and an adjuster nut. Might have to remove the airbox/AFM to reach them though.
