Mi16 Overfueling/emissions Set Up

Recommended Posts

_Dan_

I have dropped in another mi16, got all up+running, but... I have taken to the MOT and seriouly failed emissions.

It will not idle smoothly and after a while it starts to hunt very badly till it cuts out.

With the emissions the CO + HC do not seem to balance, if one is adjusted to correct value then the other goes sky high and vice versa.

I have had it checked and confirmed what I alrady knew, that it is seriously overfueling.

I know my way round the engine well but cant put my finger on the problem this time.

I did try a different afm but that made it worse. Not to rule out that mine is working correctly, but was ok when last used on prev engine.

I have now fitted my old head and I know that is spot on. It seems to be running slightly better, but still not quite right.

I am yet to have the emissions rechecked, prob should get that done really.

Just wonder if anyone has had this issue or any ideas.

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Yes, that seems ok, have tried the other one I have to, but exactly the same.

I have a similar problem . The garage managed to get it through its mot on emissions with some fiddling, but now it is running very rough. I think its just massive overfueling. Hope adjusting the mix will rectify. Did you find out what was up with yours.

Swapping the blue sensor may have cured the over fueling but if youre still using the black and wet plugs it's never going to run properly unless theyre dried out or changed.

Might also be worth squeezing the afm connectors in slighly incase of a poor connection.

check that the ecu temp sensor has a perfect earth. if it hasnt, fuelling will be all over the place. i had the

exact same problem on my own mi16 as somebody had bodged the temp sensor earth and mine wasnt actually earthed.

What's your throttle body like, as they tend to wear on the spindle badly causing all sorts of problems. Mine was comical at an MOT a couple of years ago, emissions were everywhere!

I have just put a new temp sensor in, to rule out any probs with that+have checked it has a good earth, which it does.

I've also looked at the throttle body, which does appear to have some play and I think maybe causing some problems. I do have another throttle body, so will try that one.

Will check the afm connection too.

Just need to go get the emissions check.

The only other thing is, before i have got the emissons checked, is it really play up when hot. It hunts really bad til it cuts out. any thoughts on that.

Will let you know how things proceed as and when.

ok, so got it to the mot and failed the emissions, it seems as though i could adjust the CO.

So was going to replace the afm, but thought i'd strip it and check it first. all seemed ok, but i adjusted the sensor and reads the flap angle. after that i run it up and it runs like a dream, not matter how hot. so got it back in for the mot and passed.

so problem solved.
