Just noticed that a lot of the recent photos are not working.

The Project has moved on considerably since my last update, including a full Engine Rebuild & exterior respray;

Top job!

I've never seen the under-bonnet lighting idea.

My friend works for a company that design and build slot-machines, and he gave me a roll of LED lights on a big strip, you just snip off as long a length as you want, and solder up the feed and earth, i've got it cable tied to the roll cage at the moment, works really well!

What spot lights are those? I've seen some Super Oscar replicas on eBay that I'm thinking about getting, I've got some cheap Ring Rally Giants at the moment, and not convinced by them, even with 100W bulbs fitted.

What are your 2016 plans? I'm guessing Rali Llyn etc? Will you be coming any further south? Bro caron, Cilwendig etc?

I always look forward to your updates, a very well presented car!

Cheers,

Tom

That looks lovely... Indeed, almost too nice to flogging it up and down the lanes!

Hi mate,

The under bonnet LED's are two daytime running lights from ebay, the boot light is made with almost 3m of LED strip light :)

The Spots are an experiment to be honest, as I sold my Ciebie Super Oscars a few years ago, they were a great lamp. These are a pair of RDX 807's, they are PIAA 80 series copies by the look of them. I've got some decent bulbs on order to fit, I haven't been out with them as they are to assess the light. I'll let you know what they are like once I get the new bulbs fitted and set up :)

The plan for this year is to go to a few Retro Car meetings, a charity car Trip around Snowdon and Rali Mon for now.

Got a session on the Rollers to book tomorrow :)

Thanks mate,

plenty of others have said the same thing to me, it's almost sown a seed in my head to not use it on the lanes, but.... it's been built to do the job :)

Hi Matty,

I purchased the spray cans from my local hardware shop, I cant recall the make.

It's had a full professional respray last year to finish the project off.

Yes, it was on ebay.

Far too many tyre kickers and test pilots!

I finally got the stripe and XS graphics fitted to finish off the exterior of the car.

I've had the original registration put back on the car.

Went out for a spin yesterday to the first event of the year, a "Drive it" meeting at the Anglesey Transport Museum :)

Nice.. I think I saw this on ebay a while a go, did you decide to keep it?

I need new decals for my xs if im ever going to paint it, its a yellow-red XS with yellow and red pin stripes all the way down the side. I doubt peugeot have them but it makes the car look really retro, did you get yours made?

Cheers mate!

Yes, I had mine made. I measured the dimensions, brass rubbed the outlines onto a blank piece of A4 paper, scanned it and re created it in paint shop pro.

I've made Black, Red and Silver hi Res jpg's, but can easily make them any color.

I had though about having a few sets made and sell them on ebay, but I wasn't sure what kind of demand there would be!

Well...... there's been a few months, a few Car shows and a fair few miles done in the XS since the full rebuild (Engine and Car). Now the winter has arrived, it's time to set about the next part of the XS's Evolution, that is to go 16v in the form of the TU5J4.

A few highlight photos of the past six months before I post the next post about the beginning of the engine conversion.....

Almost seems a shame to add so much extra weight over the nose (I'm assuming you've still got the featherlight TU3S currently?) but no doubting the significant extra performance you'll gain with the J4 conversion.

Hi Anthony,

It was a hard decision to make, as taking the TU3S out takes away it's identity. The extra weight should be countered by the performance upgrades that have been purchased.

I'll put another up to date post later, as the TU3 was sold a few weeks ago, and the work on the new engine is well underway :)

This week I have been mainly spending more cash........ haha!

I bought two gearboxes, both standard 106 GTi units. The plan is to fit one of them onto the car to get it running and sort out any issues out (hopefully there wont be many!).

The other will be stripped and will have the Final Drive replaced with one from my old XS gearbox (4:2) with the GTi cluster and will be fitted with a Quaife ATB Diff.

I should be getting the cylinder head back this weekend, so I can begin fitting the pistons back into the engine in the week and finish the complete engine at the weekend all being well :)
