Couple Of Vts Gearbox Related Questions

you will need to strip the diff out, and fit the diff unit into the VTS crownwheel. If you dont do this you will struggle with one of the inner driveshafts not fitting. If you use a 306 cable and clutch you dont need to swap the clutch arm and fork over. The only reason im trying to get hold of a BE3 clutch arm and fork is because I have already bought a 405 clutch kit.

That's what I meant, keep the VTS crown wheel and use the 309's differential. I've got a spanking new Mi16 clutch here already from before I sold my 205 I'm I suspect the clutch in the VTS box is getting close to the end of its life.

Having read back through the threads I fond about this I'm confident I can make it work now. :D

Ok so I'm out here with the gearboxes in front of me... Why does the whole differential/crown wheel problem arise again? Both my 309's driveshafts appear to fit the VTS box fine. The splines match in number and length, the intermediate bearing is the same. Why can't i just use them?

Sorry to hijack this a tad, but I have a quick question; are all the speed sensors from earlier 306s the same? or are they different according to gearbox? ie, can I use one from a base model or will the different gear ratios be a problem?

its the 205/309 nearside cup/spline that doesn't sit fully into the vts diff apparently.

I dons have an n/s vts shaft to compare, but with a small dab of grease on the splines of the 309 shaft as it goes in it gets smeared the full length of the teeth, which suggests to me its engaging its full length. The splines are tge same length as the diff end of the o/s vts shaft too. I reckon it'll be fine.

How do i get the sodding vts box off the engine? the clutch fork feels stuck on something inside. :D

remove the clutch arm.

Pull the pin oit that is held in by a little spring. the pin goes all the way through the clutch arm and spindle.

They are a pian to get off IMHO, tho my mi16 came apart easily this morning

Pin came straight out :). Thanks. Clutch still has life left, but I want to keep the car long term so a new one won't hurt. happy days! :)

So i'll go ahead and answer my own question lol for future reference. The vss sensor itself found on 306 xsi's is actually the same part number found on all phase 1 (pre facelift, whatever) models; N3F 2 260- 6160 24. There are a couple of facelift TU engined models that use this sensor aswell, but I expect theyre a little harder to come across. Just thought i'd confirm this because I wasn't sure (as always, servicebox has the answer).

Sorry for slight hijack, but I appear to be missing the little spring that is supposed to keep the pin in place. Anyone know if this is on service box as I can't find it? Or an alternative to keeping the pin in place - mine seems to slide out a bit over time, noticed it the other day and had to knock it back in but the spring has disappeared...
