206 Engine Conversion

Recommended Posts

I might be getting a cheap 206 1.9D, 52 plate I think, it's a non runner but I think I know the problem, but that's another story!

I don't have a great track record when it comes to leaving the right engine in a car! I've already been thinking about possible transplants, but how do bsi's react to different engines? Now I'm not planning on something boring like a different 206 engine, in which case I could just swap the bsi as well, I'm thinking something like a D9 406 v6, would the v6 ecu be compatible with the 206 bsi or am I asking for trouble trying to mix and match ecu and bsi?

I have peugeot planet so I can code keys and pair ecu/bsi etc but I've only ever done like for like replacements and don't have a great deal of knowledge when it comes to bsi's.

The only v6 conversion into a car with a bsi that I've heard of is the C2, but that had a D8 engine and he replaced then entire wiring loom/clocks/controls so did away with the bsi, which is over the top for what I'm thinking about, if I have to go to them lengths then I'll leave it as a 1.9D, it's cheap and I don't intend on having any more than £1k in it by the time I'm finished, much much less if I don't change the engine!

I don't know enough about how it works, but I'd imagine starting with a D9 engine you've got a chance of making it work.

Peugeot Ecosse have done a 307 V6 but I never got a closer look at it, may be worth asking them.

Main issue I can think of bar the wiring is the depth of the engine bay, the width shouldn't be much of an issue as it does take a DW engine bolted to a BE box which is roughly the dimensions width ways the 205 has to play with.

That's what I was thinking when I was working on it yesterday, but I would have thought if a v6 fits in a C2 it must be possible!

Before I go buying any engine I'll get the tape measure out and use my D8 v6 engine as a guide.

The problem is with the car at the moment the ecu isn't communicating with the bsi, so even with the stop solenoid connected to switched live it will run (not very well due to no ecu control) the gauges don't work and it's stuck in eco mode, so no stereo or anything, so to make it work I'd at least have to get a signal from the ecu to the bsi so it knows the engine is running.

This might be a lot more trouble than it's worth but I enjoy a challenge!

Thanks,

Rob
