Morning all,

Had a minor issue this morning accidentally shorted the battery onto the ECU. Not my proudest moment.

The car won't start at all now and when you switch the ignition on the speedo spins up to 90 and the rev counter goes mad too. The glow plug light isn't coming on a long with a couple of other lights on the dash. Just wondering if I've blown the ECU or wether it has screwed up an earth lead or something?

Any help or advice much appreciated.

Many thanks, Seb.

in my experience with later pugs and fords when the clocks do a merry dance with the ignition turned on the battery is goosed, so try a new battery first.

check all the fuses if the glow plug light isnt working, don't know offhand with the 220, but any car I've worked on so far has the glow plus separately controlled to the ecu.

Yeah thank god it wasn't the Gt4, it now looks like I may have to use that instead of the winter hack which I'm not to pleased about though.

Thanks Welshpug I will change the battery and see what happens. The jump lead just touched the ecu for a split second and the car turned straight off. It will turn over well but won't fire at all.

So annoyed with myself!!

At least if nothing else it's a chance to blow the cobwebs off my Gt4.

I'd check all the fuses first then, hopefully you've just blown the 12v feed for the ecu wherever its taken from.

I've had a look at it but bugger it, it wasn't going to last much longer as it is falling apart anyway. Just have to use the old gas guzzler now.

Thanks for the help Welshpug.
